Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, but I'm assuming you knew that already
Chapter 1
The Marauders all sat, huddled around the fire place, in deep conversation. What were they up to now? Lily could see James' face etched into a concerned frown as he turned towards Sirius and muttered something gravely. As much as she hated James and the egotistical behaviour that all the Marauders often took part in, she couldn't help but be curious about what had caused them to actually be serious, excuse the pun, for once.
Lily was sitting next to Mary Wilkinson, one of her two best friends since Year 1 where they met on Platform 9 and 3/4 both as confused and muggleborn as each other. Since that day they had been practically inseparable. She was one of the few people who Lily could actually talk to, and would understand, all the problems that she'd had with my sister Petunia (or Petty which Mary always likes to call her)
Sitting not too far away, currently engaged in an intense game of exploding snap with Alice Prewitt, was Lily's other closest friend, Evangeline Williamson. Evie had sat herself down next to Lily and Mary on the Gryffindor table after being sorted and since that moment there's never been a day that Lily regretted becoming her friend. She was a cunning prankster at heart and never let an opportunity slip if a prank could be played. It was because of this that Evie had taken an interest in one Sirius Black, something that Lily could never understand. It was not a feeling that Evie had ever acted upon though, she would never admit it to anyone.
"What do you think they're up to?", Mary whispered, glancing in the direction of the Marauders
"Not a clue," Lily replied, "Sirius looks livid though and he rarely gets angry"
Everyone in the common room had their eyes on the Marauders. They were usually running around the school, playing pranks on the Slytherins or leaving snakes in Snape's dormitory. They were almost unrecognisable now with their solemn facs each slowly nodding to one another, even Peter looked afraid to say anything out of place! How ever, it was James who seemed most upset. His eyes almost seemed tear stained although no one could believe it. He seemed to be leading the conversation as if he were dishing out information to them all as they helplessly nodded.
Lily had hated James since the day he had sauntered up to her and Severus on the first day of school, sneering into Severus' face and telling Lily that she'd be much better off learning the ropes from him, "a Potter". He had grown up a lot since then and came around, apologising to Lily although she still hadn't really forgiven him. Since the start of the sixth year he had become much more mature, still a prankster, but he would think twice before getting into a fight with someone unnecessarily and this made Lily reconsider the first impression she'd had about him.
Suddenly, in an abrupt movement James slammed his hands down on the table then stood up. He hurried, head down, towards the painting that concealed the common room and slammed it on his way out.
The entire common room sat in silence, all that could be heard was the loud melancholy complaints of the painting outside. Everyone was thinking, "I wonder what that's all about?"
