I know it's been done a lot but I wanted to give it a go. It's my first time writing as a character I don't actually like, so if anyone would like to tell me how I've done ;)
Disclaimer: I need to stop forgetting these. Harry Potter is not mine.
They are duelling and fighting (and it is like they're children again) he ducks and spins and laughs (except the stakes are so so much higher now) he taunts her and makes her forget (forget her master forget the battle forget herself) and they are children again. (And the stakes are not high anymore because it is just a game) and children do not die.
So she is free to do whatever she wants (but she doesn't want to hurt him, not Sirius) so she aims only to stun not to kill. Never to kill.
He remembers too. As he ducks her curses and laughs (Bellatrix Lestrange vanishes and she becomes Bella Black) they are bestbest friends and some things can never change.
It is her first day at Hogwarts and Sirius is sulking because he cannot come.
"Why do you have to go anyway?"
"To learn stupid. It's only a few more years before you'll be joining me. We'll be invincible."
He stamps his foot and turns away then turning back and running to engulf her in a hug.
"You won't forget me though will you Bel?"
"Course not. It'll take more than a school to split us up."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
They are both at school and pass in the corridor. She carefully masks her face into one of ice. He glances at her; he looks a little lost in his red and gold tie. She sneers (he is only a Gryffindor after all. He is not worth the pain.)
"I thought you wouldn't forget me. It's just a different colour Bel."
She whirls around "Don't call me that! I said I wouldn't forget my cousin, you're nothing like him." She doesn't miss the hurt that flashes that crosses his face but she doesn't apologise. Black's don't apologise. (Even when they want to more than anything.)
They are fighting. Students around them are cheering them on.
"Fight! Fight! Fight!"
"Come on Bel, you can do better than that!" The childish nickname is out before either can stop it and she falters and gives him an in.
"Come on, you can do better than that!" Again the phrase makes her falter but this time it is the lack of nickname. And perhaps this sign that their childhood is finally over makes her strike harder and more directly than before. Because she wants that nickname. Wants that childhood.
Because children cannot die.
And he falls and she can do nothing to stop him. But it is all right because it's just a game and Sirius is just hiding to catch her off guard or maybe he's badly hurt and can't come back (except it was only a stunner she never meant to hurt him)
She laughs. And laughs. And hopes that her laughter will stir him and bring him back to finish their game. Because they are still playing. It is still a game. They are still children.
And children don't die.
