Summary: Vergil muses about why people fear the darkness.
Notes: A rewrite of an old fan fiction of me. Deleted the old version.
Darkness is all around us; it is merely a matter of paying attention to see it. There cannot be light if there is no darkness, however many humans choose to put a blind side to that part of reality.
This is why so many fear the dark. A - for most people, unconscious ward against whatever lurks out there. Because there are always monsters out to get you. It is, simply put, the matter of whether or not you want to realize it.
To take a stand and fight for it.
Or to run and hide like the weak and useless species you truly are, hoping that the monsters won't see you hiding underneath the bed.
By all means be afraid of the dark because it is terrifying, but do not make the mistake of letting the fear consume you. Because if you do and come to face a situation when there's nothing but darkness, you will perish. Uselessly screaming for help when in other cases you might have stood a chance to defend yourself and those around you.
No, you need to seek power to fight what lurks in the dark. Otherwise you're nothing but cattle to the wolves preying on you. The first step might be knowledge of what's out there, but power is necessary to survive. To grow stronger. To become the wolf who preys on the cattle so that none may ever hurt you again.
Power in itself is such a subject matter. It can be used for good or bad depending on who wields it, but if possessing too much one will easily be corrupted by what has been achieved. But still you need it to overcome what is out there.
In the end it is an endless Ouroboros knot, set to destroy what humanity is in your heart if you do not take drastic measures against it.
The question stands, will you face your fears and become the hunter and be ready to sacrifice your inner self, or will you remain the coward and mercilessly be slaughtered for the sake of what you believe in?
To kill or be killed.
Human or predator.
AN: I know this is very generic and all, but we all know that Vergil aspires power, and if I've understood all the media surrounding DMC correctly it is implied that their mother Eva died trying to save the boys, and it's strongly hinted that at least Vergil saw it happen, which has affected how Vergil thinks. Give me your two cents?
