It was unusually hot for a Saturday in Forks and Bella wasn't quite sure what to do about it.

She looked at her best friend, Jake who was with her and the rest of the members of the Quiluuette tribe who were dressed in local and sacred regalia from their native tribes. Embry wasn't full Quileute so he dressed in Makah colors and symbols and disigns and those who had married into the tribe and were related to the others that way also had different dress then was original for the tribe. Jacob was set to dance later on and Bella watched as Embry's mother and father took the seat of honor around a big sacred drum in the middle of a circle of chairs.

They began the powwow ceremony as Bella listened and was overloaded with sage incennce that was supposed to ward off bad spirits, the same way Jacob had told her that her dream catcher worked.

Bella wasn't Quileute but knew Jacob Black and his family so that made her a part of the ceremony anyway thought Jake always found himself reminding her that " you are the first outsider. Ever."

She knew she was supposed to be respectful and she was as the dances happened and Billy Black spoke to the gathering as chief of the entire tribe. He introduced his family and Jacob took center stage in the powwow circle. He danced as the drum beat went faster and he fought to keep up the heavy clothes he wore trying to drag him down and the heat. Oh the heat was horrible. He was a werewolf so that must have made it even worse for him which Bella was sorry about. She wished she could cool his body off and she might have to do so later on once the ceremony was over.

As Jacob danced, she watched and listened to everything that went on around her. Nursing a tiny headache and trying not to fall down.

But the heat didn't help any and she felt herself starting to sway, a single collecting place on the top of her head getting burned. She smelled sage and felt herself falling asleep standing up. But as not to be disrespectful kept her eyes open as best she could and saw Jacob rejoin her once he was done dancing.

" You alright?"
