Have had this on my computer for ages, I just forgot about it. Takes place after 'Parts'. Probably very OOC.
"What's going to happen to John?" Amy Solwey asked in her slurred speech. She was too tired to sign.
"Well, he's in a serious amount of trouble because what he was caught doing was illegial." Replied Elliot.
Amy's face hardened. "Why? Because it was a life saving decision?"
"It was against the law."
"What John did was brave and caring."
"But it was also wrong."
"So that's why you stopped him. Because the man had enough compassion in him to throw out your damn laws to do what was right!" Her voice raised slightly, making the slur worse.
"I'm not saying—" Elliot began to say, but was cut off.
"No, what you're saying is that saving a life is wrong, thatwhat John did was wrong. But unlike you, John has a heart . . . and a soul. He cares about saving a life, even someone as undeserving as me."
Elliot was speechless. Her words had hit home. He wasn't heartless or soulless, he just had to follow the law. After all, that's what being a cop is all about.
"John is the reason I'm still alive today." She continued in a much softer tone.
He raised a questioning eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"He convinced me that killing myself wasn't the answer. I learned that one must overcome their guilt and help make things right. In an indirect way, he saved my life." Amy looked like she was about to cry. "Please . . . don't blame him for my actions." A single tear rolled down her cheek.
Elliot looked downcast. He never knew that his colleague had had this heartfelt exchange with Amy. He knew John was a decent man, but he never knew this special side of him.
"I promise," said Elliot quietly, "John won't get in serious trouble for what happened."
"Thank you."
He merely smiled, all the while thinking about the nice, long talk he was going to have with John the next morning.
