Tiny oneshot set during Dance Central: Spotlight. Mo finds himself falling in love with his protégé, after recovering from a traumatic breakup. Personal headcanons say Mo was in love with MacCoy, but I wrote it so you can choose Mo's previous love interest for yourself. :)
I chose 'Brea' as Mo's last name.
The last couple of weeks, and the memories they created, would soon emerge. Everything he wanted to say lingered on his lips, like a swimmer on a diving board, uncertain of the future but more than willing to embrace it. To jump right into it and face it head-on, with the one that gave him purpose. The one he had come to love beyond doubt, reason, measure.
The last couple of weeks would soon emerge, in just a few words.
Mo approached his partner with a smile, a look that said 'whenever you're around, I'm home'. Glitch was no more than a few inches away, even though he felt as distant as the dreams that crossed Mo's mind last night. It was an amazing thing, wondering how a human could be made of dreams and wishes, but the Brea was facing someone from the clouds. A wonder that had always managed to defy comprehension, but had become even more mystifying in just a few short weeks.
No, Glitch only needed a few seconds to blossom. That's how fast everything went; it all happened in just a few short days, with no distinction between seconds and hours.
Smiling, Mo opened his mouth to say the words he had been dying to say, for weeks. Seeing Glitch blossom in splashes of life brought him to that one moment, in which he'd obliterate all doubt, all fear, and would face the future from that point on. Without looking back.
"Yo, G? I-"
Glitch stepped back, hands held out as if he were physically pushing Mo away, head bowed. Silence cut through both of them like a knife. The younger half of Hi-Def quickly broke it, but was none too warm. Instead of the happiness Mo thought his words would create, barely getting anything out at all just resulted in fear. His protégé's eyes becoming saucers of sadness, guilt, anxiety. Very much like the saucers he had during his first days in the Brea's apartment.
Not at all the reaction Mo wanted.
"Stop. Stop right there, Mochi. Jus' stop it, okay?"
Mo staggered back, his own eyes wide. "But-"
Glitch spoke with emotions Mo hadn't heard since his protégé's first week in his life. Hi-Def's prodigy looked into the face of his crew's founder, but just for a second. Couldn't stand anything longer.
"I said stop it, all right? Don't go there. Please. It ain't right. Yer not feelin' me."
"Hey!"
His partner's voice grew louder. "You ain't, aight? Yer still in love with someone else, and-"
Mo had never been so horrified. Jumping out of plane without gear wasn't as easy as he thought it would be. "You seriously think I'd use you like that? Can you seriously look me in the eyes and say I'd do that to you?"
"No," Glitch replied, head bowed, true to his word. Speaking as if someone was cutting his soul out without a butter knife, crushing all of his dreams and incinerating his every purpose without hesitation.
"But…I jus' can't believe a dime like you would…"
Nothing more was said. Mo's best friend, the one that made him believe in miracles, left.
