PROLOGUE
The muffled sobs of a young child were carried through the narrow alleyway erupting as an eco at the open end. The alleyway smelt, and was filled with rats living of the rubbish and scraps from the nearby shops. Along one wall was a line of skip bins and at the very end was a small hunched over figure; the source of the sounds. As the sobs continued the rats were silenced, their beady eyes all staring at the same thing. The creatures all became fascinated in it... they wanted to know what it was and why it was there. Since it was among what they had claimed as theirs was this thing theirs too?
They were fascinated but scared by it.
There was one brave rat who took the liberty of claiming it. The clump of mangy fur edged forward slowly until it came to a stop, standing up on its hind legs it began bruxing, and sniffing the air. It then let out a sudden shrill, loud squeak as the figure scared it by moving suddenly.
In defence the rat launched itself onto the bare leg of the child, and clawed at the flesh before scattering. As blood seeped and ran down the leg the rats all stood on their hinds sniffing the air, and as a group, they started towards the figure. In response the sobs stopped and other sounds replaced it, claws dragging as they tore for grip on the gravel along with communication calls of the rats.
From outside the alleyway a loud scream was heard but there was no one there to respond.
It's only short but the prologue holds meaning so take note of it! Thanks for reading...
