There were many things Jack loved about Liz Lemon.

He loved, for one thing, the way she walked into his office every morning, frazzled before the day had even started. She would poke her head in through the doors, give him a half-smile, and then strut in an awkward gait, complaining about whatever was troubling her at that moment.

That was another thing - he loved how she spoke to him. There was truth behind every word that left her lips. She was honest when it came to everything; so was he - maybe a little toohonest at times, he told himself - but she meant everything she said. It was meaningful; there was tenderness in the way she spoke. She actually cared. And when she was angry with him - forget about it! When Liz Lemon was livid, Jack couldn't help but be slightly taken by how she would rapidly spit words at him like bits of fire.

Jack also loved Liz for everything she was not - she was not like any of the women he usually found himself with. She was different. He couldn't quite place his finger on it - perhaps what made her so different was the fact that she hardly put any effort into her appearance. After all, she wore those bi-curious shoes to work nearly five days a week, kept her hair in a messy style, and her wardrobe was rather dull. Of course, she also had a great personality. She was funny, bright…and he admired her work ethic - she always managed to clean up whatever mess they found themselves in – whether metaphorically or literally. Or maybe, Jack thought, it was that she was always there for him. No matter what, she made time to hear what he had to say. She was right there to listen and give him advice – and she was supposed to be his mentee. But she had become more than that - she was the best friend he'd ever known. Yes, Jack decided. That was it.

Yet there was one more thing Jack loved about Liz - her laugh. It was loud and slightly obnoxious. Usually it came at inconvenient times, such as when she was chewing. Occasionally, an unattractive snort would accompany the laugh, and while this was unappealing (and always inappropriate at social gatherings), he still couldn't help but smile when he heard it. It was certainly not the most melodic sound that could grace one's ears – but it was pure, and full of life. He was in love with her laugh. Laughter was a sign of happiness, and what he wanted most was for Liz to be happy.

"Hey, Jack," Liz peeked into his office. "Are you coming downstairs? The party's no fun without you."

He grinned. "Yes, Lemon, I'll be down in a minute." She smiled and nodded, then silently closed the door.

Yes, Jack thought, Liz's laugh was probably his favorite thing about her. Next to her unconditional friendship to him, of course - that would always be there.
