Hello everyone! This is my first fanfic and I can't believe that I'm actually posting this *goes into corner and rocks back and forth*
Anyways, give me some ideas to either help me or just because you want me to change it a bit, can't wait to hear your reviews. Till then!
It was very dark with little light shining through the dark curtains that adorn the windows of my room. I open my eyes to be greeted with a beam in my face and I hiss in pain, but not just from the light, no, my whole body. "Why am I in pain, why does everything hurt, why can't I move?" are questions that I ask myself. Before I could go deeper into why this was happening, I heard someone open the door, shedding more light into the dark room. I could hear the tiny squeak of the ancient hinges and the soft footsteps coming towards me. Then, I hear a clank as a tray is being set down along with the soft mumbling of the girl, presumed by her voice.
"I wonder when he would wake up, his condition is getting any better, but at least they found someone able to heal him. But even then, we all know he wouldn't be at his fullest. My Lord is getting increasingly worried too. Your Highness, please, wake up!"
I can feel eyes on m, not paying attention to mine, but of my arm. I feel a sharp pain shoot through me and I realize what she brought with her, a needle. She leans over and suddenly she is in my line of vision. She looks like an ordinary nurse, but with an unusual feature, she had horns.
As she looked over me, she noticed that my eyes weren't all the way closed and instead, lidded. She immediately got out a light and shined it into my eyes and she got an immediate reaction because soon as the light hit my eyes I groaned and tried to shut them. She gasped and ran out of the room screaming, "He's awake!". After that, people went in and out of my room, checking on me, trying to see if I was responding to anything being said, and so on.
A week has passed and I still feel sore. Once a day, nurses would come in with bandages in their hands and take off my shirt, however as soon as they touch the old bandages, I would groan in pain and pass out. I don't know why it's not healing, but I feel something toxic running through my veins, and I don't like it. I know most of my memories are missing, but they just feel as if they are clouded, there but unreachable for the moment. This past week, I've been doing nothing but thinking. Thinking about how this started and why I was like that are a few examples. I hear the creaky door open and soft, but purposeful steps coming near me, only to stop by my bedside.
A soft sigh emits from the person and I curiously crack my eyes open to see who it is. A man with messy dark hair and black eyes. He is wearing a black robe with golden trims and designs along with a white toga and black shoes. I recognized him and I feel very close to him but from where? I don't remember this person yet I feel as though I know him. "Why is that?"
"How are you feeling little brother Natsu? Better I hope. I cannot bear you to be in so much pain any longer. I wish I was there with you when it happened. I feel so ashamed and useless because I'm here doing nothing while you are doing everything just to survive. Hmph, Mother would be proud if she were here right now, her 'brave little boy' fighting for his life. She'd probably yell at me saying," Zeref! Go and help Natsu, he needs you right now!", and she'd be right. I know you can hear us, but why aren't you saying anything? I'm worried about you, brother, why won't you speak? Are you ashamed of the incident? That wasn't your fault you know, you were tired and running on fumes. Brother? Please, talk to me, give me some reassurance that you're still in there." the man rambled.
"He called me his little brother so that must mean he is related to me. Wait, I DO know this man... Brother? Is that really you? Haha, I remember now, me and you playing in the garden of an old castle. But what does he mean by 'the incident'? I don't really remember anything happening. Ohh well, I should probably start talking, but damn does everything still fucking hurt," Well, here goes nothing," B- Brother?" I say weakly. I try to scrunch up my face in obvious disgust with my weak voice, but it only comes out as a grimace which turns into a real one as I try to move my head.
He looks over at me with a shocked expression on his face but ultimately smiles warmly, but that didn't last long as he saw my discomfort.
"Brother! Try not to move so much if it causes you pain. I'm right here, no need to see me if you can't. Hmph, I'm so happy to see that you are responding to me, as little as it may be. I'm sorry I wasn't here this last week, I was busy with my work and had absolutely no time to come and see my favorite person, I hope you can forgive me," he said, switching from happy to sad as he switched topics on himself.
"Brother?" I ask, getting a hum in response I continue, "I d-don't blame you. Y-you were busy w-with *cough* everything and * cough cough* unable to see me. A-all I'm worried a-a-about is your happiness-" I start coughing violently, unable to stop. He sprung up to envelope me in a hug, careful of my chest and ran soothing circles on my back as I coughed. My lungs burnt and I couldn't breathe. No matter how much air I got in, I would just cough it all out. His touch and soothing notions, however, calmed me down, but I was still left gasping for breath.
"Brother? Are you alright now and do you want me to stop? Should I go get some nurses to check on you if you feel unwell? Do you need some-" I shut him up by weakly grabbing him and saying," S-shut up, a-and just s-stay here with m-me,".
He looked surprised for a moment because that is not how he remembered his brother to be like, but thought better of it because only he could be able to calm him down. The dark-haired man just smiled and settled himself next to him, each other enjoying the company. My breaths started to even out but even then I would still cough every now and then, making my lungs burn all the more.
"He seems genuinely happy to be like this, I wonder why? How long have I've been out for him to act this way... Not that I mind at all. I feel... comforted like I've never been before but I just honestly can't bring myself to care. I'm enjoying this, but I can't ignore my throat's desires."
Once I'm calm enough to start speaking again I look up at him and start to speak, my voice heavy with strain from my earlier coughing fit," Zeref, I-I need some water, m-my throat hurts,".
He looks down at me sad with the thought of leaving, but perks up with an idea and grins evilly," Alright, Natsu, I'll get you some water, just let me call someone in here to do it for me. I don't want to get up,". I develope a smile like his and I weakly chuckle at him, because I too, did not want to get up, even if I could. He smiles warmly and rubs my head, then he rings a bell by my bedside. A little while later, a nurse comes in, but she starts to blush at the scene of me cuddling with my brother.
"Y-yes, my Lord, what do you need?" she asks, still blushing over our position. My head was laying on Zerefs chest as he comfortingly rubbed my back through the flimsy fabric of my linen shirt and holding me tighter as I cough weakly.
"Yes, he needs some water, will you get that for him? Also," he starts with a serious expression on his face and continues darkly," this is not what it looks like so you can wipe that silly blush off your face. I am merely comforting my brother who is in pain."
She quickly blushed in embarrassment and bowed to him, "I'm sorry my lord, I did not know the situation and came to my own conclusions, I'll take my leave to fetch you the water," and with that, she was gone.
I looked up at him questioningly and he just smiled and shook his head while chuckling. I decided to ask a question that was on my mind for a while. "B-brother, why do I feel so calm around you? With you a-away, I feel incredibly annoyed. Why is that? Do you k-know?"
He looks down at me once again and I feel scrutinized under his gaze, after a pause he finally speaks, "I feel the same way, but I don't exactly know why. I may have an idea but it's far fetched, but we are connected. We are two of the last of our kind, so we're naturally close in that way, but having been apart for so long, we might have developed separation anxiety for each other," he finished looking up and around the blue and gold room, with it's thick, blue, velvet curtains and antique furniture.
"O-oh, that makes sense I guess... Well then! T-that means your going to have to stay by my side till this passes!" I exclaimed quietly, but calmly. He starts to laugh and say, "Yes, indeed little brother, I shan't leave you again unless it is dire, but even then come free to visit. My arms are always open,". I just hmmed and closed my eyes waiting for my water.
A few minutes later, the nurse came back with my water and some other nurses to do my daily vitals. "My lord, I'm sorry I was taking so long, it won't happen again. I ran into the nurses in the hall on my way down and I told them what you told me so that there weren't any bad rumors going around. Please forgive me," she said, as she bowed to him.
He just smiled and sat up to let the nurses do their work. "It's fine, I appreciate you doing that for us," then he turned his attention to me, "I'll be right here, I'm not going anywhere, now, please, drink your water," he finished and lifted the cup to my lips to drink.
Today's nurses all looked the same, unlike the previous ones where they looked different. They had short black hair to couple with their shot height with long black bunny ears on their sides of their heads. They wore long white coats with dark shirts and shorts underneath.
The one closest to me started talking and started to piss me off, "Hello my Lord, it is good to see you awake and kicking, I mean after all this time I would've thought you would already be awake. Why did a handsome face like yours have to get so hurt?! I mean your beautiful and I wouldn't change anything about you, well except for your hair. Pink is not a man's color, you know."
"Is that so, Lamy? Would you like to take that up with my father? I know for a fact that he's scarier than me. I appreciate you saying my brother is handsome and all, but was that comment really necessary? He can't change his hair color any more than you can change your patheticness. Now it's either you shut up or I make you," my brother say protectively.
"Ohh, your Majesty! I did not realize that you were still here, I am truly sorry for what I said. Please have mercy on me!" the now revealed Lamy, exclaimed sarcastically.
"Calm down now and get your ass to work or do I have to make you?"
"Y-yes y-your Majesty, r-right away!" and after that, she got back to checking my vitals.
"I'm sorry for her incompetence, she really needs to learn manners. I'm sure you've had questions, but our distraction got in the way. I'll tell you anything you want to know.
"It's ok, I'm sure she didn't mean any harm by it," I say
"I understand that but she needs to learn when to stop." he pares back with me.
"Ok. Ohh right, questions! My first question would have to be what did you mean, 'the last of our kind'?
"Over the years, many people have been against any breeding between humans and demons and humans and dragons. They would go and try to kill them when a group became known. Or mother was the result of a human and a demon while our father was the result of a human and a dragon. Others have also fallen in love and had kids thus creating the H.D.D species. The humans were furious and started hunting us down trying to kill us, but they were never able to get us, with us being the rulers of this land. Our father's mother was the princess and she fell for a dragon, they had him, making him a prince and then he met your mother by saving her from a mob. It is strictly forbidden to hurt a royal so they have left her and us alone since then.
"So we're two parts human, one part dragon, and one part demon? That's fucking awesome!" I said, happy with the result. "Next question, what happened?"
"Your group along with you were on your way back to headquarters after a battle and were tired and exhausted. Halfway back, you ran into a poison dragon on our opposing side and it killed your accomplices and severely wounded you due to your exhaustion. If you were anyone else, you would've died on the spot, but you fell into a coma instead. That was 400 years ago to answer your next question." he added on, knowing his brother would ask that next.
"So that's why the wound on my chest isn't healing. If that was 400 years ago, how old am I now?" I ask curiously as the nurses tending to me start to leave.
"You were 1400 years old when you went into battle, you are now 1800 years old. We're twins so I'm the same age as you, before you ask," he looks out the window to see that it's dark out. "Natsu, it's late, you should be getting some rest right now. There's going to be someone that we've been searching for for 400 years coming tomorrow to try and help you and to correctly diagnose this situation. We have no real info on her, but she joined the Dragon Council recently and had to go through some tests. I'll tell you that tomorrow before she comes, so don't worry," he said before he realized he's on the council too, "Ohh and Natsu, you're on it too, hehe," he finished sheepishly.
"Ehh, could be worse being on the human one, am I right?" I joked lazily with him with a yawn. "Night brother, I'll see you tomorrow," and with that, I close my eyes to get some sleep.
He leans down and kisses my forehead and says," Of course, good night. I love you little brother, I missed you. Don't ever leave me again."
Yo, everyone! You must be pretty pissed off with me changing everything, eh? Well, who cares? I don't think I'll ever update this chapter or chapter two again cause I seem pretty content with it. Thanks for reading, JA NE!
