Authors Note: In honour of all mothers everywhere. Happy Mother's Day.

In the long years of his life, the Doctor had witnessed the beginning of many wonders. He'd seen the birth of a galaxy, the creation of an ever changing, coloured waterfall and snowflakes that sang as they fell. None of that compared to the exquisite sight of his newborn son and daughter, feeding at their mother's breasts.

It only seemed like yesterday that Rose, his wife, lover and best friend, had presented him with two colourful Easter eggs. They were symbols of new life to tell him she was pregnant.

The following months had been difficult as he watched her deal with terrible morning sickness and the constant battle to ensure that her nutritional needs were met. Then there had been that little discovery that her pregnancy would last much longer than nine months. Apparently a quirk of him being half human, half Time Lord. The Doctor raised his hand to his cheek, certain he could still feel Rose's slap.

There had been moments to cherish as well. Intimate times, where the two of them would curl up together, the feel of their unborn children moving under their hands, within Rose's womb. They had fun mulling over what to call their children. Many a memory was revealed about the origin of the names, followed by subsequent laughter. He didn't even mind the shopping trips with his mother in law, who seemed determined to design the nursery.

Rose glanced up at her husband, noting the goofy smile and glazed expression. She alone knew the full extent of the Doctor's loneliness after the loss of his planet and people. Exhausted as she was after many hours of labour, she smiled back at him, hoping he could read the love radiating from her.

He obviously knew. He bent forward to kiss her forehead and then her lips. "I'm so glad to have met you. I love you."

"I love you too, Doctor. Next year though I want to be spoiled rotten with breakfast in bed. This was not quite what I had planned for today."

The Doctor looked confused. He was still learning about human customs, but before he could ask what Rose meant, the door to the birthing ward banged open revealing a very breathless Jackie Tyler. Without a word to either of them, she rushed to Rose's bed, cooing loudly about her sweet grand babies. The Doctor figured that he'd give Rose and her mother some alone time but just as he was about to leave, Jackie called his name and drew him into the strongest hug he'd ever experienced.

"Don't you even think of going anywhere, Mister." She pulled him back to Rose's bedside and then leaned over to kiss Rose's cheek. "Never imagined this," she said as she wiped away a couple of stray tears. "Thank you both for the best Mother's Day gift ever."
