This is my first Star Wars fanfic. Enjoy. I don't own Star Wars (sadly).
As soon as his eyes are open, before they even clear from their drowsy haze; he feels it. His shoulder and especially his back are on fire. He registers, numbly, that they must have given him painkillers, since his movements are sluggish and delayed. He'd hoped that the pain would be gone by the time he was awake. But he realizes in that moment that the burn of a lightsaber wound cannot be erased so easily.
The next thought in his mind is of Rey. The last time he saw her, she was unconscious on the snow covered ground of the weaponized planet. He wonders if she is alright. He would ask, but his tongue has been made slow and stupid by the drugs. He wishes to see her. She must be alive because he is, and he sure as hell didn't save them from...
Kylo Ren.
The very name fills him with contempt. That monster killed Han, and that alone is an offense Finn cannot forgive. Ren also tried to kill Rey, twice! And the first time he kidnapped her. No, that asshole was going down.
Which brings him back to Rey. Where is she? Is she safe? Is she hurt? Will she be alright? Does she miss him? He misses her.
How did he get here? He knows this is the resistance base. He can recognize it. The last thing Finn remembers is when Ren tossed Luke's lightsaber from his hand like a toy and slashed him. He remembers roaring Rey's name as though it was the only thing he had left, which it was.
Which brings him again back to Rey. Where is she? He shifts uncomfortably, his face twisting into a grimace at the pain of that simple movement.
At the very rustle of the sheet he is under, an alien attendant comes shuffling into the room. Luckily, he speaks English.
"How are you feeling?" He asks Finn.
"I'm good." He croaks. He notices then how dry his throat is. But he doesn't really care. "Where's Rey?"
"She has gone to find Luke Skywalker. She has been gone for about three months."
"Luke Skywalker?" Finn is confused. "I thought the map was incomplete."
"R2D2 had the rest. The piece you helped protect was the last in the series." The alien twists his fleshy mouth in a gesture that could pass for a smile.
She'd been gone three months before he even stirred. That's longer than he thought. But then, a coma has a way of warping your time perception. The thought of her being gone for three months is foreign to him. He doesn't know what it means, not really, but he thinks he likes her. As a former storm trooper, interpersonal relationships are unfathomable, so before he shipped out, he asked Poe what it meant to like someone. Poe clapped him on the back in a brotherly way and laughed loudly; saying that Finn would figure it out and that Rey was a good girl.
(Sensing his inner distance, the alien nurse slips away. Hopefully to get Finn some water, because he is thirsty!)
At the time, Finn didn't know how Poe guessed that it was Rey he was after, or what Poe meant by his declaration of Rey's goodness. Finn knows she is a good girl, that's why he likes her. Beyond her beauty and brains of course. For now, he wants her back. In fact, that's all he wants for…ever, actually.
Perhaps he knows more about relationships than he thought. The notion is somehow both nerve-wrecking and comforting at the same time. Finn falls back asleep with a smile on his face.
