So while watching tonight's summer finale I couldn't help but squeal at the Auggie/Annie moments. This is my take on what Auggie was thinking at the hospital. I may follow up with a chapter on what Annie's thoughts were during the scene.

Set during 2X10 "World Leader Pretender". Spoilers ahead.

Auggie sat in the plastic grey waiting room chair, cup of coffee clutched in one hand, cane in the other. This was his second cup, probably not a good idea considering it set his nerves even more on edge. But he couldn't help it. He needed to be alert when she came out or in case…anything happened. He couldn't fully bring himself to think about that possibility.

Auggie had been in his office when he heard about the call. Agent and asset hospitalized. Shen Yu and Operative Walker. At the point he had all but leaped out of the office and called a cab, heading straight for Georgetown hospital. After some frantic phone calls to Joan and the secure CIA line to the hospital all he could gather was that she was being checked for radiation poisoning. Although Auggie was no doctor he knew how fatal radiation poisoning could be.

'Please let her be okay' He repeated this phrase over and over in his head like a mantra. If anything happened to her…

After more waiting and his third cup of coffee Auggie decided he should attempt to rest. He carefully felt for the chairs next to him and lay down, stretching out as best he could. The position certainly wasn't designed for comfort but it was the best he had and no way in hell was he leaving that waiting room. He dozed on and off for the next few hours, trying to stop his mind from playing the worst case scenario in his head. He had just started dozing off once again when his ears picked up the sound of what he had been longing to hear.

"Are these seats taken?" Annie's voice. Auggie smiled in relief. Turning his head he started to get up, groaning slightly, "It's amazing how my head, body, and legs can all be so uncomfortable at the same time". As he sat up Annie spoke again, "Have you been here all night waiting up for me?" this time her voice was less teasing, gentler.

'Like I would do anything else' he thought to himself. Instead what he said aloud was, "Me? No. The gift shop opens at eight; I wanted to get in early before there's a run on stuffed whale top hats". Before he could continue he heard Annie step forward and in less than a second she had propelled herself into his arms. He felt her arms wrap around his neck and reciprocated the embrace immediately.

'Annie' he thought in relief breathing deeply. Her usual Joe Malone Grapefruit scent was absent but he breathed in her natural scent as he tightened his arms around her body. "Hey, it's gonna be okay". As he spoke to her in a soothing tone he felt her nod her head.

He breathed in deeply once more. "You're okay", he spoke, reassuring not only her but himself.

"Thanks"

They stayed like that for a moment. Arms wrapped around one another in comfort. What he would give to make sure she was never in danger again.

As Annie pulled away he heard her sigh "Okay are you ready to figure out who did this?"

There she went, jumping int the thick of things.

'She's alright' he told himself once more, smiling as they headed out of the hospital arm in arm.
