Based on the song 'Footprints in the Sand' by Leona Lewis. I suggest listening while reading. I don't own Kingdom Hearts OR Footprints in the Sand. Enjoy! RokuShion pairing. :)

~~~~~KHCrazy~~~~~
Still kneeling on the ground, Roxas looked at his hands. There was no girl in his arms anymore. A shiver ran through his feeling less body. The Thalassa Shell was clasped between his hands, the pink standing out on the black of the glove. Roxas's tear slid down his cheek and onto the pavement. "Xion…" he whispered, a stab in his chest. His memories of her that were slowly fading flashed across his mind.
Axel, Xion, and Roxas walked down the beaches of Destiny Islands, laughing and talking. "Okay, guys. I'll see you back home. Saïx will kill me if I get sand through the castle." Axel grinned a crooked smile and walked through the corridor of darkness.
Their footprints carved a mould in the stiff sand near the wake of the sea. Roxas's were big and bulky; Xion's small and petite. The sun began to set, casting a gold light on the sand.
"It's so confusing. What am I made for?" Xion asked, a sigh in her voice. She looked at Roxas with an identical shade of cerulean blue eyes. She kicked the sand.
"You were made to be a part of the Organization." Roxas said. "With us."
"I think I was made for something else." Xion said. "Something bigger."
Xion was grateful Roxas was there, listening, reassuring her. She wanted to learn her yesterday, but she feared her tomorrow. What was in store for her? Was she destined for a painful decision, or an even more painful death?
Xion leaned over to Roxas. She put her lips close to his ear.
Then, she spoke.
"You'll find my footprints in the sand…" she whispered to him, earning skeptical looks from Roxas. "Fate isn't my best friend." Xion said.
As Xion lay dying, she remembered the beach, with Roxas, so long ago. Or, so it felt. What had her life become? Or, the remainder of her life? Was it really the right thing? To leave her best friends, for someone other than her own good? In a way, Xion felt it should not have ended this way.
What was happening to her? Why was she dying? Were the thoughts running through Roxas's mind? She had to survive this. She couldn't die, not now. Even if his memories of her weren't the best, he knew that, if she were lost to the world, it would be unbearable.
"Don't forget." Xion reminded with her last strength. "That's the truth." Dropping her hand from Roxas's cheek, she sighed, her thoughts leaving her head as she began to feel her body shut down. As she closed her eyes, she saw the pleading blue eyes of Roxas, and she couldn't help but using her last strength to begin a trace of a smile that danced on her lips.
Roxas heard her voice. Her voice from so long ago.
Memory-Xion leaned over to Roxas, her lips almost touching his ear. Then, she spoke.
"You'll find my footprints in the sand…" Memory-Xion leaned back over and looked across the ocean that so closely resembled her eyes.
Back in reality, Roxas felt numb; how did this happen? She couldn't be dead, she couldn't have left him, what, and with all those questions he had? He felt something other than indifference when he saw her remains float up into the sky disguised as shards of ice. And, suddenly, he didn't feel so limp.
Roxas almost felt her lips on his ear as she whispered in his ear.
Again, Memory-Xion spoke.
"You'll find my footprints in the sand…" Roxas teleported from Twilight Town and to Destiny Islands. Under the shade of a Paopu tree, Roxas saw it. Engraved in the sand. You'll find my footprints in the sand. –Xion.
