Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.
Author's Note: It started a scene. A lone girl staring at the river of Venice, her pale thin hands absorbing the warmth of her cup of tea. Then an idea came and I instantly knew I had to meddle with time. Just like that, I realized it could be a story.
A LIFE'S WORTH
By A.j.S.
Preface
She dresses up for the day. A white sweatshirt topped with red leather coat, and a pair of old faded jeans. She also wore a gray bonnet, a silver Cartier watch, and a pair of one inch high brown boots that reaches her knees.
She let her brown curls loose creating a messy wave of soft hair cascading to both sides of her face and her back. For her makeup, she chose a light shade of rose pink lipstick, a layer of facial powder, and a soft brush of glitter brown for the eyes and velvety pink for the cheeks.
This girl could be a rose, she thought as she stared at the girl in the mirror. She's beautiful and very much so, confident with years of adventures and painful experiences. Beneath her eyes, she holds the intellect that came from thousands of books read and a war won.
She forced a smile, and so did the girl in the mirror.
This is the girl who once overcame the world. This is the girl who stared death in the face in a number not even both hands can count, and survived. This is the girl who had a passion for learning, a compassionate heart and bravery so determined she would trade her life for her friends.
This is the girl who loved her parents so dearly she sent them away to keep them safe. This is the girl who broke her best friend's heart, one, two a time because she couldn't really feel complete with him and believed he deserves greater happiness than a life with her. This is the girl who loved and lost but loved again anyway.
This girl is living a life no normal twenty three year old has lived. This girl is Hermione Granger.
She composed herself and smiled, a real one this time. The girl in the mirror did the same. Tears wet both corners of their eyes, and they both suppressed a choked sob that contorted their faces.
She breathed a sigh, allowing her lungs to replenish air.
This is the girl whose story is going to end, finally.
