A/N: Written for Archy the Cockroach foreverrrr a couple months ago, I think. Figured I'd throw it up here.

Rinoa's saying something to him from across the table, the shiny ring on her finger catching the light and bouncing it prettily; the ring matched her entire outfit, every thread the sparkling, dainty fairytale princess. Squall, has that look on his face, the one you are familiar because gods know that you've been on the end of it before. It's the carefully, just-on-the-edge-of-polite fake look that you have gotten immune to after seeing it so often. Rinoa doesn't seem to realize it as she prattles on about some thing or another, her slender, dainty hand gesturing and sending the pretty sparkling light bouncing off her ring again.
Somewhere off to the side, Zell is folding his napkin into little shapes, twisting them around and grinning at Selphie as she attempts to do the same and finally blows her hair out of her face, sending you a smile that used to make your stomach go all funny. It feels even odder now, because you know something is missing when you look at her. She's gorgeous, pretty eyes, slender, wonderfully soft and feminine and you're not an idiot- she looks at you sometimes, the very same damn way that you catch yourself doing when you look at the Commander. An apology doesn't seem quite right, because how the hell would one go about apologizing for something that doesn't quite exist (yet?).
Leonhart looks up and over from Rinoa and catches your eyes squarely and that stupid funny feeling that used to come when you looked at sweet Selphie, happens. No good will come of this, you know, because Leonhart is...he's himself. He'll always end up being that cold, distant brunet that sometimes...you're not even sure knows any of you exist. And sometimes, Leonhart sends you one of those little looks that you know is something only you are privy to and maybe it makes things a little more bearable.
