{Tiny but Naughty,
You trick your opponents,
but also trick yourself} - Mem Cake 81
Ah, the world of Splatoon. Many know it as a world in which humanity has died twelve thousand years prior due to the rising seas, caused by the humans using nuclear bombs against each other. However, in another dimension this causes a mutation amongst the native animals of the planet. Animals such as horses or dogs started breathing fire, some species of mouse started to conduct electricity, and some species of sea mammals began to use the very water itself to attack. These were Pokemon, monsters of unimaginable powers.
As Inklings and Octolings rose to replace Humans as the "Top Dogs" of the world, they began to develop new technology which allowed for the start of Pokemon battles. This of course toke decades, however the way the first Inklings and Octolings tamed the first pokemon differed. Inklings prefered to form bonds, while Octolings discovered weirdly-covered nut-like plants called Apricots.
However, not all good things can come from Pokemon. The Octolings began to use Pokemon against the Inklings in a war known as The Great Pokemon-Turf War, which combined the use of Pokemon and Ink in terrifying wars. In the end, however, the Inklings had won, as their bonds were much stronger. With the power of the Legendary Pokemon, Groudon, the Octolings were sealed to their demise in the grounds below.
With the war won, the Inklings decided to create the first ever Pokemon Leauge in order to deal with Pokemon-related problems, while Turf War became a game to Inklings. Soon, Gym Leaders formed for Pokemon-trainers to fight and Splatfests were developed for the enjoyment of Turf Wars for the most popular subject.
Now, this story is neither a story about "catching them all", nor is it about becoming a Pokemon Master. No, this is the story of four trainers who each have their own path, and the path they choose might not always be the best, but they have their partners by their side. This, is the Story of Four.
A Inkling groaned as she stepped out of the train, three other Inklings following suit, each of them stretching out into the warm sun which shined from the many angles of the city due to the amount of shiny metal around. This, was Inkpolis, capital city of the Inkling World. The Inkling in question was a orange-tentacled inkling, her narrow purple-silver eyes glazed over her fellow Inklings and studied them.
One of the inklings was a tall blue-tentacled inkling, her long tentacles were pulled into a low pony-tail. Her timid green eyes studied her surroundings before landing on the orange-headed inkling. She shrunk in on herself for a moment, before relaxing. She wore her casual clothes, which were a Blue and black sweatshirt and black shorts, her feet adorned with black and blue sneakers. On her hip was a pokeball which contained her Partner. Her name was Atlantic.
The next Inkling who was kinda short was a black-tentacled inkling, although his ink color was dark green, and it was shaved on the sides to give him a "mohawk" kind of look. His golden eyes studied the stores with intrest, a grin on his face. He wore a white T-shirt and black shorts, his feet adorned with sandles. On his hip was a belt which held a single pokeball containing his Partner, but also a box of supplies. His name was Coastal.
The last Inkling that resembled the short inkling was a silent grey-ish white inkling whos ink color was a dark purple color held back in a braid. The inklings boy-ish body but girlish face was known to confuse people on their gender, and led to most believing they were of either gender. They wore a plain grey sweater and blue jeans, and their feet was adorned with brown boots. On their hip was a single pokeball, also containing his partner. Their name was Polar.
Leading back to the first inkling, she was a tall Inkling with orange tentacles that weren't held back into a pony tail of some sort. Her tentacles dangled from the sides of her head and before her ears, ending before her hips. Her silvery-purple eyes and nonchalent eyemask studied her surroundings once more. She wore a basic tee and shorts, and on her feet were green and black sneakers. On her hip was a pokeball, like the others, however by her feet was a goat-like animal. Her name was Coralline.
Speaking of the animal by her feet, the goat-like animal was short, barely reaching Coralline's knee. It's brown and pale-white shaggy goat protected it from the cold, but the unusual part of the coat was its bright orange-red horns and the fire coming from its butt. This was a Kidling, a pokemon native to the Urobos region. This Kidling was named Buck, and he studied his surroundings with a glint in his eyes.
Buck darted off suddenly, letting out a "Baa!" sound. Coralline snorted, rolling her eyes, before she started to chase her partner. The shouts of her friends behind her and the groan coming from Polar was heard behind her as she chased her partner through the crowds.
Buck came to a stop as a pair of feet stomped infront of him, causing him to "Baa!" in agitation. He backed up and glared upwards before flinching. the eyes that greeted him was nothing short of "Evil" and "Bad", the red gaze that stuck on him startled him, and caused him to turn around before a leg could snap out at him.
Coralline slid to a stop as her Kidling ran back to her, scared out of his mind. Coralling looked up and glared at the Inkling that had their leg stuck out a bit, and spoke up, "Did you just try to kick my Pokemon?" she growled out.
The Inkling stared back at her with a bored look on their face, then they grinned as three other Inklings approached, obviously her teammates, "Yeah? So what. Your pokemon ran into me, nearly hit me if I remember right. Little fucker needs to know who's boss 'round here." he growled, his teammates grinning and chuckling, each of them dressed in black.
Coralline snorted as her friends came to a stop behind her, "Last I checked, kicking a Pokemon, tamed or not, is against the law. Besides, I doubt you're the big boys around here anyways." she growled, leaning down to pick up her scared and startled Pokemon who "Baa'd!" right back to her softly.
The Inkling snorted, "The laws are stupid, who the hell even cares for them anyways? You're right on that part though, but I bet you're weak. I challenge you to a official Pokemon battle! On the news and everythin'!" he chuckled, glaring at Coralline.
Coralline frowned and looked back to her teammates. Each of them looked at each other before nodding to her, a grin or smile on their faces, Coastal spoked up, "I bet we could beat your asses to the sea even without pokemon!" he boasted, his chest puffed up. Coralline simply rolled her eyes, turning to the Inkling with a nod.
The Inkling snorted, then grinned once more, "The names Spotfire, we're Team Invasive. What about you punks?" he asked. Coralline hummed, "My name's Coralline. We're Team Tentacover. See you in two hours?" she asked, and he responded with a nod and a chuckle as he turned to Judd.
~~~Timeskip~~~
Two hours had passed, and the two teams gathered at a nearby ring. The ring was surrounded was various people of all ages and genders, but from two boxes on either side stood the Squid Sisters, Marie and Callie. Each had a pokemon next to them, Callie had a Espeon and Marie had a shiny Umbreon, the blue markings standing out against the black fur.
As the teams lined up, Callie started, "Alright Ladies and Gentlelings! This is a battle between Team Invasive and Team Tentacover. Trainers can only use one pokemon, when one team member faints their pokemon, the next teammate can replace them," she stopped, letting her cousin continue, "And once the whole team has their pokemon fainted, the one who has the most teammembers not fainted wins. If everyone is ready?" she asked.
Both teams nodded, and the first two from each team went up, it was Spotfire versus Coralline. The Cousins started the countdown, posed and shouted, "Battle begin!" and the two threw out thier first (and only) pokemon.
"Spotfire of Team Invasive sends out a Rattata! But whats this? This Rattata is black! This means its a Alolan version! It is non-native to the Alola Islands and has been a ongoing issue for a long time!" Marie informed, Callie continued for her, "And Coralline sent out a Kidling! They are a very rare species of fire-type pokemon of the Goat-Species! They are rarely found only in the Urobos region, and are usually given to children as pets!" Callie finished.
Coralline grinned, "You got this Buck, start this off with a Tackle!" she yelled, lashing out her arm as the fire-goat "baa'd" in response, lunding towards Rattata. Spotfire grinned, yelling out in response, "Rattata, Dodge and use Tackle right on back at them!" he commanded, the Ratatta barely dodging before tackling into the goats side.
Buck grunted, sliding against the ground but coming to a pause before his trainer. He let out a fiery "Baa!" before stomping his hooves against the dirty ground. Coralline grinned, knowing just what to do. "Buck, let's give them the taste of sand! Sand Attack!" she shouted. The goat bleated and turned around to start kicking up dust and sand into the air, covering the small ring.
The Rattata coughed, trying to rub its eyes of the sand and dust, but was hit by a Tackle from the side. The Dark-Normal type pokemon slide to the side of the ring, but didn't fall. It rose up and shook its fur, glaring into the dust cloud. Spotfire growled, "Use Quick Attack to clear this dust and get that damned goat to the ground!" he roared.
The Ratatta chittered and ran around the wing, causing a strong gust to blow away the dust and dirt. Buck bleated, snorting ass out of its nose as it glared at the Ratatta as it charged at him.
Coralline grinned, "Just as planned- give him a nasty headache! Headbutt!" she cheered. Buck snorted, stepping back, lowering his head. Just as Ratatta reached him, he jolted forward and slammed his head into the Rattatas. Ratatta went flying back to his trainer. Unable to stand up, he fainted.
Callie cheered as she waved a green-line flag towards Coralline's direction, "Team Tentacover won this round! Coralline is able to switch out or continue fighting." she waved her flags a few times. Coralline looked back to her team. Atlantic nodded, stepping forth, "I'll go this round Coralline! Don't worry, I'll beat them." she assured.
Coralline nodded as she switched out with Atlantic, calling back Buck. Buck let out a snort of ash before he went back into his ball.
Once the next member of Team Invasive came up, the battle begun. Atlantic and the Inkling, whos name was Jasminn, threw out their pokeballs. From Atlantic was a green and white bird like pokemon with red cheeks that looked like a Pikachu, the bird pokemon let out a chirp as it landed on the dirt. From Jasminn was a Meowth, although...
Marie jumped up to the occasion, "From Jasminn, we can see a Alolian Meowth! Non-native to the Alolan Islands, the Meowth was brought in as a gift to the monarchy originally developed there. When the monarchy was disbanded, the Meowths went Feral!" Callie glanced at the Meowth and huffed, before turning to the bird pokemon, "And from Atlantic is a Folait! They are a rare type of Grass-Flying type native to Urobos! They are known to feed on sap and nectar that has a lot of sugar due to it's fast metabolism. Wish I had that kind of speed!" Callie joked, chuckling to herself.
Atlantic studied around and spoke, "Hummi, see if you can cause some sand to fly in the air please?" she asked politely. The Foliat chirped, and started fanning its wings. Dust and Dirt started to rise into the air, covering the Foliat and Meowth.
Jasminn groaned, "This again! Meowth, see if you can hear them out! Make sure to dodge that damn bird." she growled. The Meowth yawned lazily, but its ears twitched. Atlantic narrowed her eyes at this detail.
"Hummi, please Tackle and if they dodge, please use Peck." she asked. The Meowth jolted up as the bird attempted to tackle them, however the bird manage to twist around. The beak glowed a soft white and when Hummi's head jolted out to make contact, it caused the Meowth to hit the ground hard.
"Damn it! Meowth, give that damn bird some Payback!" Jasminn roared, her fists clenched in anger. The Meowth got up and lundged at the bird who grinded its talons into the ground as the Meowths...- fist?- hit its face. The bird went sliding back, however it glared at the Meowth.
Atlantic hummed, "Absorb to get back your strength, then go ahead and finish it with another Peck, Hummi." she calmly stated. The bird twittered and glowed. From Meowth, game dots of green-white dots that darted to the bird pokemon. The pokemon glowed and the bruise that was forming on the pokemons face slightly disappeared. The bird lundged, its beak hitting the Meowth and sending it back to its trainer. Unable to stand up, the Meowth fainted.
Jasminn scowled, calling back her pokemon and moving to let the next member replace her. Atlantic moved back and let Coastal replace her. He nodded to her with a grin, and placed a hand on his hip.
Callie shouted out, "Alright! Team Tentacover won two times! Wow, these guys are tough!" I wanna battle them soon!" she squealed, clenching her fists under her chin in a closed eye'd grin. Marie nodded in agreement, "Yeah, but you forget that they have to battle seven other gym leaders to get to us, right?" she asked. Callie sighed, "I meant a friendly non-gym battle fight, but yeah! I can't wait to battle their leader to be honest- Coralline right? She looks pretty strong with her Kidling." she commented.
Coastal and the Invasive teammate, Castir, coughed for their attention. The Squid Sisters flinched before Marie let out a sigh and signaled for the battle to begin. Coastal sent out a blue lizard like pokemon with a dark blue belly and dark blue spike on its back and tail, along with a white crest on its face and on its claws. Castir had sent out a Corphish in response.
Callie cheered, "Oh my gosh, it's a Aguade! They are a rare water-type lizard-specied pokemon from the Urobos region. They develop hard salt along their claws and face as a defense mechanism, and are pretty good at punching!" she commented, and Marie sighed, "I can see the theme of Team Invasive's pokemon. Each of them have a pokemon that is invasive in some area. Did you know that Corphish are non-native to the Kantos region? Some think they come from the Kalos region." she informed.
Coastal groaned at the information, then grinned, "Alright Punch-out, lets show these guys how hard your Scratch is! Afterwards, give that Corphish a Bite!" he yelled. The Aquade nodded and ran at the Corphish, sucessfully scratching along the shell, however when the lizard tried to bite, the Corphish suddenly used its claws to grab the pokemon in a Vice Grip!
Punch-out struggled in the Corphish's grip, Coastal growled, "Punch-out, give that guy a Water Gun to the face! Get him off of you so you can give him a Bite!" he ordered. Punch-out opened his mouth, letting out a hard stream of water into the Corphish's face. The Corphish, startled, let the pokemon go and hissed as the lizard pokemon bit at its shell.
Castir grunted, and the Corphish used its other claw to Vice Grip Aguade's tail. Tossing the Aguade into the air, it let out a Bubblebeam at the Aguade. The Aguade burbled as it landed on the ground, fainted. Coastal groaned in dismay, "Sorry Punch-out, I got carried away." he proceeded to send Aguade back into his pokeball and move way for Polar.
Polar silently let out a dark grey dragon-like pokemon, a Carbite as Callie and Marie informed. The dragon glared at the Corphish, who burbled and backed up as the dragons glare struck it. The Carbite turned to Polar who simply pointed to his head. The Carbite nodded, and turned around and lundged at the Corphish, headbutting it into the dirt. It let out a grunt of satisfaction when Castir sent it back and left, and the last member of Team Invasive toke stand.
The last member, Nevir, sent out a Yungoos, but winces as immediately after the Yungoos was sent out, the Carbite opened its mouth and used Caustic Breath, which instantly fainted the Yungoos.
The members of Team Tentacovered cheered, tackling Polar to the ground as Callie and Marie announced their win to the crowd, all of whom cheered. In the shadows, Team Invasive fled, Spotfire glaring at the other Inklings with a promise of death.
And so ends the beginning of a story. What adventures await these four? Check out next time on Adventures of Four!
A/N I've been playing Pokemon Sage (and Zeta) for the last couple days. I've been in the Splatoon fandom for about a month now, so I wanted to do yet another crossover. Fun!
Note: I do not own Pokemon Sage, however I do recommend the game! But please support Nintendo if you wish!
