Disclaimer: There would be more shots on the Lincoln Memorial if I owned Bones is all I'm saying.
Enjoy.
..:::..
Rain
..:::..
A hitch of the breath.
"Why are you doing that?"
"Don't panic. Just relax."
Silence but for the rain pounding the ground.
Complete trust in the air around them.
A twitch.
"I said, relax."
"You're making me nervous."
"It'll be worth it."
A pause.
"We should go inside, the rain-"
"-never hurt anyone. Stay here."
She opened her mouth to argue but found that against all that she usually did, she didn't want to fight anymore.
She looked down to their joined hands, his fingers rubbing softly, slowly against her palms. Something so innocent and yet if felt so intimate.
Just like their surroundings. Lincoln Memorial steps. Night.
Warm summer rain pouring around them.
The smell of the season musky on the air. Her head spinning in the delight of it.
And his fingers, circling her palms.
A gasp.
"It's ok, I promise."
"I trust you."
Their eyes bore into each others, each daring the other to back down; to lower their gaze. But neither will.
Her heart is racing and his is too, she feels it in the pulse through his thumb. She relaxes a little knowing they both feel the same.
It's taken so long to get here.
Too long.
They had both pulled back for too long.
He was scared intimacy would risk her life, she was afraid it would risk their friendship.
Neither could survive without the other.
He raises one of her hands gently to his lips. The rain cascades around then, cooling against the burn that is his lips to her knuckles.
Such a good heat.
She can't think of the pain that led to this moment. Only of the joy she's feeling now.
Years and years of torment, of pulling and pushing and never backing down. Never letting her shield fall. And the torture of him pulling away when she was finally ready.
Pain. Pleasure.
And a fine line.
A fine line eradicated on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial as his lips finally sealed against hers, searing heat surrounding them in the cool summer rain.
It would never matter what brought them here.
It would only matter what they took away from this night.
..:::..
Just a little something to compliment the summer rain we've been experiencing. If only I lived in Washington and had a Booth replica (or the real thing...either way) to complete the scene.
Reviews are loved and appreciated muchly.
