It's a feeling of dread that settles in the pit of her stomach that tells her the results before she even looks.
It's a feeling of dread that she's never felt before; sure, she's felt dread itself; when she went to go apologize to Jesse after she blew up at him; when she got a call saying Lilly got in a minor car accident (although, to be fair, the first thing Stacie said when she called was, "Lilly got in a car accident oh my god!"); but this is a new kind, the worst kind.
But she peers up from the floor to the little torture device on the counter, and she's still surprised by the answer.
She runs a hand over her hair, groaning as she sinks back to her spot on the linoleum floor. She just recently graduated from college, moving to LA with her boyfriend to start a music producing business. Her life was just getting started. This can't happen now.
And what would Jesse say? He wouldn't leave, he's sweeter than Kool Aid with too much sugar and more affectionate than a Care Bear, but he just got his first gig scoring movies. There is no possible way he wants to deal with this.
Speaking of the devil, the front door to their apartment opens, and Jesse's voice fills her ears. "Beca!" He calls. "Bec-aw!"
"In here." She murmurs, hoping he doesn't hear her. But he does, and she listens as his footsteps approach the bathroom and he opens the door.
"What are you doing in he-" He starts, but his eyes catch on the test on the sink, and his words are lost.
After a few silent, stoic beats, he sits next to her, leaning his head on the sink and taking her hand.
"Do you remember what I said to you at the initiation party when we first started our a capella legacy?"
Of course she does. "'You're one of those a capella girls,'" She begins to quote tentatively. "'I'm one of those a capella boys, and we're going to have aca-children'."
He slowly wraps an arm around her shoulders and pulls her close, kissing the top of her head. "It's inevitable."
