Chapter 1: Betrayal
It was not as if I had never questioned orders before.
Sure when I torched Maranda, I wondered why it had to be done. But I did not ask the question directly. It was just that I had convinced myself that it was for the good of the Empire.
However, the raid on the town of Figaro was a different. I found she asking, "At what point would it?"
The Empire controlled the entire southern continent. Then we moved to the northern continent. In less then a week, we had attacked Narshe and Figaro Castle, seized control of South Figaro, and were attacking Doma.
In less then a week this Empire I am serving as general under, has made an enemy of all the kingdoms of the north.
"At what point will it end?" I kept asking myself repeatedly.
Especially when you consider the method that Kefka was planning to use to take Doma… that is if General Leo could be driven off the battlefield.
"Its low, Kefka… you are going to far, at what point is it to much? Planning on using Poison," I asked.
At this point I just wanted to vomit at the thought of this. Battles are to be fought honorably. Sure, there was not much honor in how we took the southern continent…but the returners were uprising in those towns.
"The returners," I found my self-saying.
Perhaps they are right. The Empire is going to far. We already own half the world, do we really need to control the whole world.
"Celes, a solider came over to me, breaking my train of thought.
"The Emporer orders you to slaughter a few families to make sure that this miserable town stays in line," this cadet said as two more soldiers came in.
What, he wants me to slaughter a few people, for what? The town was already in line. Although anyone could tell they hated to have us here… they already knew better then to defy us. I just could not carry out these orders. This is a cowards order, and I would be a bigger coward to follow it.
"No," I said, though I could not believe the words were leaving my mouth.
"What?!" the higher ranking solider asked.
"I refuse to obey any more of these orders… this war is stupid," I answered to my amazement.
"Seize her, the same solider said, take her to the HQ, and hold her there. She is under arrest for high treason."
30 troops came in at this command and detained me.
