Best friends
They'd been fifteen and twenty two respectively the first time they had met. The older had been in a swordsmanship tournament and the younger sitting in the crowd with a fellow roger pirate named Buggy. The swordsman competitor had won every single fight, and that had impressed the young pirate. Being gutsy, the younger waltzed up to the master swordsman and without missing a beat, challenged him to an all-out fight. To the former's surprise, the older man took the challenge. Needless to say, the pirate lost. It was his first full blown sword fight after all. The master didn't make fun of the teenager though, compared to the pirate's companion who didn't hold back his boisterous laughter in the least. Instead, the swordsman thanked the pirate for the fight and gave the blue haired companion a murderous glare before pressing the tip of his sword to the now serious teenager. The latter gave a nervous gulp. Ignoring the distraught blue haired clown, the master swordsman turned to his opponent and asked the latter his name. The pirate introduced himself as Shanks, and the older man replied that his own name was Juraquille Mihawk. Shanks immediately started to call Mihawk 'Hawkey' much to the latter's displeasure. To retaliate, Mihawk began calling Shanks 'Akagami', or 'Red hair'. The younger laughed at that, not annoyed in the least.
Altogether, it was the start of an amazing friendship that would last for the rest of both of the two's lives, and maybe even longer than that.
