Title: The Meeting
Note: This is the meeting of L and Watari. L is four years old in this. Watari does not work at Whammy. He just has his own flat.
Beta: Taloolah
Story:
A small black haired boy sat on the edge of the road, his thumb in his mouth. He shivered as a gust of wind flew by.
He had run away from the orphanage again. He hated it there; all the other kids teased him.
He licked the strawberry lolly he had bought with the measly amount of money he had.
Then he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder. He looked round and up into the eyes of a kindly old man.
"Hello there little one." He said, softly crouching down next to him.
L nodded and licked his lolly.
"Where is your mommy?" the old man asked.
"Mommy told me to leave." He said.
The man frowned "She just left you here?" he asked shocked.
L nodded, his jet black hair flopping over his midnight eyes.
"Well young man why don't you come with me? We can find you a home at the orphanage for now."
"No! Please that's where she left me! They hurt me so much" he said panicking.
The man nodded rubbing the boys back.
"Why don't you come back to mine then, I can give you a nice slice of chocolate cake and a hot drink. Then we can talk some more." The man said.
L nodded "my name's L by the way." He said in a small voice.
"L that's a lovely name. My name is Watari." He said.
L smiled up at the kindly old man and with hands clasped they walked back to Watari's humble little abode.
When they entered L looked around in awe. To him, one so small, it was like a mansion but in realty it was just your average size flat.
Watari led the boy in and sat him down on the sofa. He made the tea and gave L some cake as well.
L took it gratefully and ate while Watari sat next to him sipping his tea.
"So my little boy, if you do not wish to go back to this orphanage then what do you suggest should happen to you?" he asked with a small smile.
He had already fallen in love with the boy and knew he would notbe able to let him go.
L looked up from his cake, having some round his mouth.
"Maybe sir could I stay here with you sir?" he asked.
Watari gave a small chuckle and then grew serious "Yes you may my young one, I would not let you go back to the streets. But you must know that I have much work to do, I invent things." He said.
L's eyes all but lit up at this "That is wonderful sir, I like to figure out how thing's work. We could work together on things. Could we not?" he asked.
Watari grinned, nodding and sipped his tea, looking into the fire.
The next day Watari drove himself and L to the orphanage where Watari spoke to the people that worked there and within two weeks L was moving in with Watari.
L stood in the doorway of his new room. It was small but enough for him. He smiled and placed his bag of things on the bed.
He turned at hearing a knock on the door and saw Watari. He smiled and walked over hugging him around the waist placing his head on Watari's tummy.
"Thank you sir so much." He whispered.
Watari crouched and held him close "it is ok my boy you are safe here with me." He said.
That night Watari helped L get ready for bed and tucked him in, reading him a story.
He watched him drift off to sleep and stroked his hair before kissing him goodnight on the forehead and slipped out to go to his own bed.
