Head Boy Doesn't Mean Anything

As Head Boy, Severus took pride in his position. Doubly so because it now meant he could punish his hated tormentors - James Potter and Sirius Black. However, just because he wore a badge and had a title did not mean said duo would actually listen. If anything, things seem to only become harder for the Slytherin. While it was bad enough he had lost his only best friend in a moment of blind anger, provoked by the rancorous duo, the year before, it was worst not to have anyone to talk with about his troubles.

The day he caught Potter and Black snogging like long lost lovers behind a suit of armor on the third floor - during class hours no less! - he thought this would be his grand moment of triumph. Revenge was on the cusp of his taste buds as he cleared his throat to catch their attention. Two flushing faces glared up at him, embarrassed and annoyed.

"Cutting classes is intolerable here at Hogwarts. As it's my obligation as Head Boy, I must tell you both have earned detention." Severus said, making his voice as authoritative as he could.

"Sod off, Snivelus." Sirius scoffed.

"Go crawl back into the grease pit you reside in." James chimed in.

Angry, but trying to enforce his position, Severus stood his ground.

"No. You will both come with me to the headmaster's office."

"Oh ho! The snot rag is showing his backbone! Apparently he forgot what happened the last time he did that."

He hadn't forgot. Faint bruises still decorated his abdomen and sides.

"Shut it, Black." Severus dared, instantly regretting his words as the pair pulled wands on him as if controlled by the same mind. Even if he could reach his own, it was too late.

"James! Sirius! Are you both daft?" A voice called out from behind Severus.

Whirling around, Severus spotted Remus approaching. Surrounded on both sides? The other boy slowed and stopped next to him, looking angrily at his friends.

"Professor Dumbledore is looking for you and you're both here about to blow up the school?"

The duo exchanged glances and reluctantly put away their wands. Grumbling they walked off, shooting Severus dark glares as they passed. He would be in trouble the next time they cornered him. Slightly relieved, though still on edge, he turned to Remus.

"Thanks."

"Think nothing of it." Remus replied with a wink.

Smiling, Remus continued on down the hall, leaving Severus in shock.
