On the ground I lay,
Motionless in pain,
I can see my life flashing before my eyes…
Dead I fall asleep,
She clutches his cold fingers, sobbing. "Dustfinger! Oh, Dustfinger!" Mo walks up and tries to ply her fingers away from his. "Shh, Meggie, It's all right."
Is this all a dream,
Wake me up, I'm living a nightmare…
"Dustfinger! Wake up, Dustfinger! Please wake up!" She screams again, taking no heed of the world around her. She doesn't see the pitying eyes of the Black Prince, or the hard eyes of Roxanne. Her fire has flickered, gone out.
I will not die, I will not die
I will survive…
Farid tries to help Mo, but she lashes out at them. "Go away! Just leave me alone!" Gwin's chattering has turned into a long, drawn out snarl, as if he, too, is grieving for the fire-eater.

She can feel her world crumbling around her. Suddenly a hand taps her on the back. She whirls around, ready to snap at whoever it is. But it's only Resa. She can see that her mother is crying softly. "It's okay, Meggie. He's not gone. He's here. He'll always be here, waiting for you. It's okay." Resa repeats, and suddenly she can't take it anymore. She buries her head in Resa's shoulder, sobbing hysterically.
On this bed I lay,
Losing everything,
I can see my life passing me by,
Was it all too much,

The Black Prince kneels next to his old friend. "I wish we could wake him up." He murmurs. "He lost much." The bear roars; a symbol of his master's pain and grief. "Goodbye, Dustfinger."

"Why did you do it, Dustfinger? Why? Why!? Why did you leave me? Take me with you!" She cries over and over. "My fire left with you! Take me with you! Please!"

Then, before anyone can stop her, she snatches her father's sword; Firefox's sword, and plunges it into her breast.

Her scream of agony echoes around the cave; so eerie that everyone watching flinches back. "Dustfinger… I'm coming… to you… I'm… coming…" With that, her lifeless body falls in place next to Dustfinger's. "Meggie! No!" Mo shouts, but it is too late; she is already dead. The entire cave is silent in shock, aside from Resa sobbing once more.
