Out Tonight
Summary: Mac & Stella go to see Rent. Stella's got the moonlight in her hair and Mac has a Roger complex.
A/N: I posted on the Mac & Stella soundtrack over at Talk CSI (I'm Jaekakes) and I said that 'Another Day' from Rent reminded me of SMack. And the more I thought about Rent... well I came up with this. 'kay? Set before Rent left Broadway (so sad that I never got to see it)
Dedication: All you guys who reviewed 'She Is' and 'UnErasable'. I love you.
Disclaimer: I own them not.
Mac Taylor walked out of the theatre on Broadway in New York City. Stella Bonasera's arm was linked through his and she had a sassy sway to her walk, humming the tunes from the show. Rent was closing on Broadway soon and the only thing Stella had been able to talk about was how much she wanted to see the show. Her birthday was in a few weeks and Mac had managed to get tickets.
"Let's walk." Stella suggested, "We'll never get a cab."
She was right, everyone was flooding out of the theatre and chances of getting a cab were slim to none. Mac looked at the grin that wouldn't leave her face, "Alright."
They walked arm in arm down the sidewalks of the city that never sleeps; Stella's heels clicking out a rhythm that sounded like a song. Her dark blue dress shimmered in the city lights and her green eyes glanced at Mac every few seconds.
"Take me out tonight..." Stella sang under her breath.
Mac chuckled, "You wanted to be Mimi, didn't you?"
"Mac." Stella looked at him, "I grew up as an orphan in New York City... I was Mimi. I mean, I never danced or did drugs, but that whole on your own at nineteen persona. I was well versed."
"Two strong personalities." Mac nodded his head.
"Need coffee." Stella said as they reached a Starbucks. They ducked into the building and joined the long line of people. Stella rocked back and forth on the heel of her shoes, "You're a total Roger.."
"Thank you?" Mac asked, moving up with the line.
"You pull off that tough guy persona pretty well." Stella said, they stepped up to the counter and ordered their coffees. They accepted the warm cups and moved to the station to fix them how they wanted.
They left the coffee shop and Stella danced in front of Mac as they walked. He laughed; Stella hadn't been so light hearted in such a long time. She looked years younger as she belted out the songs like a Broadway Star. People seemed to stop and listen to her as she sang and laughed as Mac pulled her out of the way of moving vehicles.
"You're excited." Mac laughed.
"This was the best birthday present ever, thank you." Stella kissed his cheek.
Mac blushed, "You're welcome."
They reached Stella's apartment and Stella removed her keys from her purse. She tilted her head to the side and looked at him, "You got time for coffee?"
"Nah." Mac shook his head, "Thanks though."
Stella shrugged, "See you at work tomorrow?"
"Yeah." Mac nodded, kissing her cheek, "Definitely Mimi." He stepped back and looked at her, "You have the moonlight in your hair."
Stella grinned, "Night Mac Taylor."
"Goodnight Stella Bonasera."
