Their relationship was a secret. They knew if others found out, they might be torn apart.
Aaron Echolls thought Logan should be with someone benefiting the son of an actor, someone who would look good in publicity shots and always knew the exact right thing to say, someone that would be agreeable and wouldn't argue, even if she thought it was wrong. Keith Mars thought that Veronica should be with a nice, safe boy, the exact opposite of Logan. In his mind, his darling daughter was too good for Logan. Veronica was going somewhere with her mind and her ambitions, and Logan would simply live off of his father's money, never doing anything meaningful with his own life.
Their friends were just as bad. Wallace and Mac didn't understand why so many girls fawned over Logan. According to Wallace, it had to be his looks and money. He had nothing else going for him. And Logan's friends enjoyed torturing Veronica for no good reason other than she wasn't a 09'er, and she didn't cower in front of the 09'ers.
Still, despite their feelings for each other, all of the secrecy got too much.
"I'm sick of seeing all of the 09'er bimbos flirt with you, as if they have any right to touch you!" Veronica screamed. This was their first real fight, and she was going to make it count by being as loud as she possibly could.
"What about DK? Pawing you as if you belong to him? You think I like watching that?"
"At least he doesn't feel ashamed that he likes me," she fiercely retorted, her cheeks flushed red.
"Ashamed? You think I'm ashamed?"
"Why else you would you keep me as your dirty little secret? If I didn't know any better, I would think you wanted to keep your options open by keeping it quiet while you go on the prowl looking for someone better, some one more suitable for you and your famous family!"
"I thought you wanted to keep it a secret because your dad and friends would never approve of us. I didn't want you to deal with the headache of having to answer to them!"
"When did I ever say that I wanted us to be a secret!? It was your idea."
"I was looking out for you!" he defended himself.
She blinked and as quickly as the anger came, the calm swamped her. "We really need to work on communicating."
Logan slowly nodded. "So, do you want to go public?"
Veronica nodded. "The secrecy kills something in me each time I see a fake blonde with plastic body parts throw herself at you."
He cupped her cheek. "Well, I don't feel great when I see DK trying to charm his way into your pants either."
"No more hiding?" she whispered.
"No more hiding," he echoed.
All in all, their first fight could be deemed a success.
