Preface: Itachi wasn't killed by Sasuke and Akatsuki dispersed after Naruto defeated Pein. Sasuke learned the truth through Madara, but Madara doesn't play much a role (or so I don't plan for him to at the moment).

Naruto summoned his chakra and placed his hand on the lock. It emitted a dark blue light and unlocked with a quiet click. The door opened to a small room entirely made of chakra enforced metal. It smelt strongly of disinfectant and antiseptics and vaguely of coppery blood. In the center of the room, he lay in a metal contraption with his arms and legs were restrained by enhanced cuffs. His eyes and torso were covered by layers of gauzy bandages and various IV drips were attached to his body. "Sasuke-teme, are you awake?"

There was no reply.

Naruto's sandals slapped quietly on the floor as he walked over. "Sasuke. Hey, Sasuke. Wake up. I know you're awake."

"Tch. Then why'd you ask in the first place." He muttered, annoyed.

The blonde ignored his question. "Hey, you've got a trial in a few days in front of Tsunade baa-chan and the old loons. I think Hinata's dad's going to be there too. And Shikamaru's. And maybe even Chouji and Shino's. Well, once those medics give you the okay for you to move, that is."

"Hn."

"Aw, come on cheer up. It won't be that bad. Baa-chan won't be that hard on ya'. I mean, you did kill that creepy old snake bastard. It's going to be just the way it's supposed to be soon." Naruto said optimistically, "You, me, and Sakura-chan can go on missions as team seven, just like old times. And hey, maybe we can even land a mission in the Land of Waves. And we can drag Kaka-sensei along as well! Remember the last time we were there? Those guys named the bridge after me! The Great Naruto Bridge, dattebayo!"

"Do you really think I'm going to stay here," he said with the languor of someone twice his age. "after all that they did?"

"Sasuke?" Naruto took a step closer; the ebullience in his voice dwindled. He saw that the skin around his wrists was rubbed raw from resistance. There were bruises laced across his naked torso and laced around his neck. His face was an unhealthy ashen shade and his lips cracked as he spoke.
"Do you really think they're going to let me stay here?" said he as his voice rose angrily, "You saw what they did to Itachi."

Naruto was at loss for words for a moment. He had heard the rumors float around the camps shortly after Sasuke's detainment, but it went against everything that happened. "Did you hear?" the voices whispered, "The sandaime actually let that happen."
"I heard he was blackmailed."
"Oh, that poor boy… Sasuke, was his name?"
"…his brother too. Can't imagine what he went through."

For Konoha's most notorious renegade to be the martyr in Konoha's best kept secret—it had to be impossible.
It wasn't much of a secret now.

"Sasuke, what did they do to Itachi?"
