Dean is 10, Sam is 6. John and the boys have been spending a few days at Pastor Jim's. Also, it's Easter.
John caught his sons sneaking out the back door. "Where do you think you're going?"
"I'm taking Sammy to church."
John raised a questioning eyebrow.
Dean shrugged. "He's into the God stuff and they're having a really big egg hunt after service."
John took in their threadbare jeans and flannel shirts.
"Maybe we should find you some better clothes."
"Pastor Jim said God don't care what you wear as long as you have a good heart," said Sam.
"Is that so?" asked John.
Sam nodded solemnly.
"Well, in that case, I think you're both just fine the way you are."
I Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
