Ianto took a while to ask it, a very long time actually, considering how often it came up in their line of work. But somehow until today it felt like too much, too personal. But today, Ianto sat up it bed and asked what was bothering him.
"Why can't you die?" He just straight up asked him. Jack sighed, knowing this would come up at some point. He knew he had to start at the beginning.
"Once upon a time, there was a broken man who covered it up with wit and flirting. And along came this wonderful man, along with this amazing girl. She was compassionate, and brave, and so beautiful. And we loved each other very much. Not romantically, her and the man were so perfect for each other, but we loved each other nonetheless. Then, the terrible day. The day it wasn't possible to win. But she was always good at impossible. We sent her away, knew it was a suicide mission. But she came back. She absorbed the time vortex, basically infinite power. I was already dead, for the first time. She destroyed the enemies, and brought me back to life. She loved me so much she couldn't let me die. And that's why I keep going on. Because I realize that at one point in my life someone loved me so much they couldn't stand the thought of me being dead. It keeps me going."Ianto only had one more question. "What was her name?"
"Her name was Rose." Jack said in a choked voice. "She's on the list of the dead at Canary Wharf, but that's not where she died. I can never see her again though. Even if I could she thinks I'm dead. She doesn't remember what happened. I just hope she knows she is just as loved." Ianto rolled over hugging jack's back to his chest. He was so greatful to this Rose, whoever she may be, because she is the reason that Jack was in his arms.
