"Is it true you left my son at the docks last night?"
Looking up Detective Kate Beckett came face to face with hurricane Martha better known Martha Rodgers; Castle's mother. "Excuse me?" She laid her pen down atop of the report she was working on.
Martha raised an impeccably plucked eyebrow. "Is it true that you left my only child at the docks last night? It's a rather simple question Kate dear." She tilted her head to the side and waited for the younger woman's answer.
"I….Did he tell you that?" Kate was caught off guard.
"No. Luckily for me my son has quiet a few friends around here. Javier called me earlier this morning to make sure he got home safely. Said you and my bullheaded son got into an argument and you left him behind." Martha regarded Kate coolly. "He seemed genuinely concerned for Richards well-being and yet you don't seem the least bit concerned. Why is that Detective Beckett?"
"Because we haven't filled her in yet Mrs. R." Detective Kevin Ryan said as he and Detective Javier Esposito walked into the room and headed for the ever present white board. Ryan hung up a picture of their friend and ever present partner then turned to face Beckett. "Castle never made it home last night." He shot Martha a sympathetic look.
Kate blinked. "What? Are you sure?" She directed her question at Martha.
"Of course I'm sure Detective. I'm not a simpleton." She took offense. "Richard always makes breakfast for Alexis and myself; it's one of his simple pleasures." She waved her hand. "He's a wonderful cook. I bet you didn't know he studied for two years at The Culinary Institute of America back when he was first breaking into writing." A fond little smile spread across her red painted lips. "But this morning he was nowhere to be seen. I checked his bedroom and his office but he was in neither place. I called the front desk and they told me he hadn't checked back in. So when Javier called I knew something was wrong. And when I was able to pry the story from him….I find it hard to believe that someone my son trusts beyond belief just left him in that….that….that place!" She huffed.
"Maybe he went to his girlfriends?" Kate was trying not to panic because if anything had indeed happened to Castle then it would be all her fault.
Martha snorted unladylike. "My son and Gina are currently taking a break from one another. Besides that he would have called if he wasn't going to be home. He'd never needless worry Alexis. Never!" She was adamant. "Make no mistake that this is all your fault Detective. Pray that my son comes home safe and sound or I will make your life a living hell!" With that said she spun on her heels and made her way to the Captains office where she had a meeting with him and the Chief of D's.
