Lunch Date, A CSI: Miami ficlet by paperbackromance
A DuCaine story that developed from a crazy idea rattling around in my brain... enjoy! The title isn't very good- I couldn't think of what to call it. If you have any suggestions of something I should change it to, I'd love to hear your ideas!
Disclaimer: I do not own CSI: Miami or it's characters. However, it would be a nice belated birthday present... :-)
Horatio and Calleigh both had the day off, a very rare occurrence in their line of work. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the two planned to meet for lunch at a restaurant in downtown Miami.
Calleigh got out of the shower, and prepared for her lunch date. She towel-dried her hair, and began to get dressed. She opened her closet doors, and surveyed the contents. Because it was such a beautiful spring day, Calleigh decided to wear her new white dress suit. She put on a light blue tank top and threw her white suit jacket on her bed. She began to look for the matching pants when she had a second thought. She pulled out the breezy white skirt from her closet, and removed the store tag. It was a gift from her father that she hadn't worn due to her job restrictions, and to her preference of pants in general. "The things I do for this man…" Calleigh joked to herself as she put on the skirt.

Calleigh arrived at the restaurant to find Horatio waiting at the entrance for her. They shared a long, searing kiss before heading through the doors. The waiter led them to their table, which was outside. The restaurant was built on stilts, and the couple's table was at the edge of the deck, with a stunning view of the water right beyond the deck railing.
They sat down at the table, Horatio pulling out Calleigh's chair for her. "Thank you handsome," she smiled up at him. Horatio sat down at his side of the table, taking off his sunglasses and placing them on the table.
"You know, any girlfriend of mine should really have a good pair of sunglasses. I'll take you shopping sometime and you can pick out a pair."
"It's a date!" Calleigh laughed as she opened her menu.
The food arrived, and it smelled delicious. The two began to eat, chatting about work and about life when they were interrupted. Simultaneously, Horatio's and Calleigh's cell phones beeped with an incoming text message. "I guess they found us," Horatio said quietly to Calleigh.
Horatio signaled for the check, and Calleigh asked the waiter for two to-go boxes, hoping she would get a chance to finish this special lunch with Horatio some time later that afternoon.
Calleigh grabbed her tasteful white clutch, preparing to leave the restaurant and head off to the crime scene. "Wait a minute Calleigh," Horatio spoke. "I wanted to ask you something before we left."
"What is it, handsome?" Calleigh questioned as Horatio walked over to her chair, digging in his coat pocket, producing a small black box.
"Sweetheart…" he began, pausing a minute to put on his sunglasses. "Will you marry me?"
"Of course I will!" Calleigh gushed in her deep Southern accent, sliding the beautifully cut diamond ring on her finger and kissing her new fiancé. Even though it was cut short, this was the best lunch date Calleigh Duquesne could ever had asked for.
A/N: I hope you liked it! The idea of Horatio putting on his shades before proposing has been stuck in my brain for a few days so I had to write this story. I could really see him doing that! D Thanks for reading!!
