Don't fight Destiny
A/N: This story takes place after the film Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
"Ahsoka, are you in here?"
Anakin heard a small puff of breath, followed by a reluctant "Yes, Master."
He closed his eyes and found his center. When he entered the dimly lit room, his face was a mask of calm. Obi-Wan would have been proud.
She kept her gaze planted firmly on her legs. His Padawan was sitting on the floor, her back to him, tossing a rock up at the ceiling.
"We need to talk Snips."
"Do we have to?" Her tone was bordering on whining. Had he been that bad? He couldn't help but hear Obi-Wan's teasing voice reply, "Worse." Anakin smiled at the thought.
He took his time walking over to her. He really should have thought about what he was going to tell her. It's not like he hadn't done something a little stupid or rash in his day. Who was he kidding, it was a miracle if he got though the day without doing something most would consider unwise. Anakin had known when he agreed to be her Master she was like him in so many ways. He already looked at her like a sister, a sometimes annoying one, but one he would lay down his life for in a heartbeat. And he knew she would do the same for him. That's what made things like this so hard.
He sat down next to her and waited. Something he'd learned from Obi-Wan. Let her make the first move.
He could feel her nervous energy through the force, she was about ready to crack. She sighed, put the rock down, and turned to look at him. "I know I was an idiot. Can we let it go at that?"
He narrowed his eyes.
She grimaced. "I'll take that as a no."
"You've always been a fast learner, Padawan."
That got him a small smile. "I lost my temper."
"Yeah I got that part. Kiln's broken nose was kind of a clue."
She began playing with the hilt of her lightsaber.
"I just get tired of being treated like a youngling. No one ever really sees me. They don't respect me."
Anakin could hear his own fears and insecurities being reflected back at him. "We all feel like that at some point. Anyone who tells you other wise is too afraid to admit it."
"But Master, you're a Jedi Knight. You have everyone's respect."
It doesn't always feel like that. He reached for that calm again. He was the Master here. He needed to start living up to the role. "I wasn't always. And respect has to be earned Ahsoka. Not beaten into someone."
She bowed her head. "I know. I'm sorry."
"I'm not the one you need to apologize to Snips."
Now she outright cringed. But she took a deep breath and said, "Yes Master." She stood and headed for the door, her shoulders slumped.
"Oh and Snips." She turned. "You have a nice right hook."
Ahsoka beamed. "Thanks Skyguy."
"Now go apologize to Kiln and mean it."
She nodded and walked out of the room, head held high.
Anakin smiled, he'd never wanted this job, but it seemed to be the will of the force that he teach her, with a little help from his old Master of course, and who was he to argue with destiny.
