Angel In Circuitry, by Aisha Iwakura

It was so long ago the only family I had left me for good. The flashbacks still haunt me; seeing my father's pained face through the window of the escape pod and seeing the explosion of the space station he was in through that same window. I never really had a mother since she died giving birth to me. I cried for days, blocking out any gentle soul kind enough to help an orphan like myself, wandering the streets of Sentinel III.

"Gene? What are you doing awake?"

That soft, sweet voice interrupted my silent daydream and I looked into her deep, chocolate brown eyes.

"Its nothing Mel, you should go back to sleep."

I smiled and petted her smooth jet black hair as she laid back down on the bed the two of us were sharing. I kept watching her as her eyelids closed and she fell back asleep, wondering how a lowly outlaw like me could come across a beautiful fallen angel like her.

I remembered the first day I ever laid eyes on her, naked, lying in that cold metal suitcase.

I'd never seen a more beautiful creature in my life.

My thoughts drifted to the time when she saved my life. How she took me into her pod and naturally ridded my body of the deadly poision that coursed through my veins. How she held me, her slim arms wrapped around my waist and telling me that everything was alright. I knew from that point on that I really did love her; even though she was a bio-android.

A hand raked through my newly-cut hair as I came back to the present. As I laid down beside Melfina, I draped an arm around her waist lovingly and smiled as she curled up against me in her sleep.

It was then I knew I was truly lucky to still have my treasured angel in circuitry.
