It was an oddly warm October night and Maggie had a stomach full of butterflies; not because the weather was a sure sign of the global catastrophe known as climate change she'd resigned herself to the fate of the planet long ago.
No Maggie was nervous because she was sitting on a blanket in an alcove of bushes with her girlfriend Luan.
When Luan had explained her idea of a night a make-out hill Maggie had to admit to being excited the idea of doing something mature seemed appealing.
Now that she was here though, all Maggie could think about was how much she was sweating and how pretty Luan looked in the moonlight.
Maybe she'd been wrong maybe she wasn't mature enough for this, "Luan?" she whispered nervously.
"Yeah, spooky?" Luan asked grinning over a picnic basket.
Sucking her lips nervously she sighed, "Luan I know I agreed to this earlier but I don't think I'm ready."
Frowning Luan reached out and stroked Maggie's hair, "It's okay sweetie I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed but I'd feel worse if we went ahead with it and I thought I'd pressured you."
Feeling relieved Maggie smiled she didn't know what she'd been so nervous about Luan was such a good girlfriend she had no idea what had brought on her anxiety.
Maggie reached over for the picnic basket, "You know what I think I was being silly, I think I am ready."
A huge smile crossed Luan's face but she tempered herself, "Are you sure? You're not just saying that cause we don't have to."
Reaching into the picnic basket Maggie smiled back at Luan, "Does this answer your question?"
Donning the executioners mask Maggie laughed as Luan let out a squeal as she pulled the machete out if the basket.
Pulling out a bottle of Lucy's homemade fake blood Luan completed the effect of her school girl costume applying a large gash to her throat and soaked her shirt liberally.
Looking to Maggie, Luan asked, "How do I look?"
Though the hood clouded her vision Maggie didn't hesitate to answer, "You look perfect."
Blushing Luan stood up, "Okay when you hear me scream that's your cue to come out swinging."
As Maggie watched Luan skip towards the parked cars that would soon be filled with screaming teens she wondered what she'd ever been afraid of.
