A/N) Look at me, writing WvA and poetry to boot! This is something that's been sitting in my writing list for ages and I figured I'd publish it. Hope you like it!
Extraction
The young wizard, he cries helplessly
Eyes wide with fear, begging for his life
As they always do
And Lexi just watches
As she always does
But this time it's different
This time it's him
Who cries plaintively
Eyes wide with fear, begging her to help
But Lexi just watches
Their eyes meet, and Lexi knows
This time it's her cry that breaks the silence
Furious, half-sobbing
"Father!"
There's no going back
Disbelieving glares from her family all around
But Lexi persists, begs for his life
Though she knows hers is already over
"Why?" they demand
And Lexi continues to plead - "He is my friend!"
The confession breaks the spell - so to speak
Lexi knows there's no return
Fraternising with an enemy
What a crime
But it buys him time
Disowning
Disgust
It all goes by in a blur
Lexi just watches
Eyes wide
Eyes wide with fear
Fear of the unknown
Fear of what is to come
But she's not scared of them anymore
She is stronger now
Time bought
Borrowed time
They both knew it wouldn't last
Pity replaced by fear
He cries out in vain, knowing all has been done that can
She cries out in response
Half-hearted begging
Though she knows it is useless
Her brother has never shown mercy
Why should he now?
Lined face
Sorrowful eyes
He falls, and Lexi feels herself fall too
Held only by the steel grips of her captors
It's her fault
Betrayal
Hatred
All for him
And still she was too weak to save him
Too weak to save a human
Now he lies discarded, dying
Dying in a place so far from his home
A warrior deserves better
She smiles faintly as she recalls
Her own bitter words
A war
All out war
Fought all around them
It's nothing
Lexi doesn't care
They release her to win their battle
How convenient
She ignores them, going only to him
Halting the process
His life half sucked from his cells
She is weak
She knows this
She is perfectly aware
But Tom's still-bright eyes tell her she is strong
And that's all she needs
The young princess, she cries helplessly
Desperate for something to save him
And Lexi watches no more
Instead she does, does blindly
Until she can do no more
But at least later
As he straightens up, fully restored
Lexi meets his eyes
Sees the gratitude reflected there
And knows for once in her life she has done something right
And now, as her cells burn up
Inside
So much pain
So much fear
But knowledge
Lexi knows she is weak
Was weak, for all those years
But now, as she lies dying
She is finally strong
She did it for him
He hates her
Did hate her, for all that time
But now, as she lies dying
She finally sees the love in his eyes
It's all for him
