Egyptian Sand
by Doma the Angel of Silence

A tragic event occurs, but Mai finds she can't let go...

Angst/Tragedy

My first one-shot to be posted on fanfiction. It's a bit different, a bit unusual
. . . I like it, but I'm biased. . .

Disclaimer: I'm just borrowing Yu-Gi-Oh for a bit, don't worry, I'll bring it back.

I've been thinking a lot lately.

. . . so much time. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . too much. . .

'It's been a long time, Joseph.' I smirked. He turned to look at me.

It's hard to let some things go.

. . . hard. . .

. . . . . . . . . so hard. . .

Brown eyes bored into mine. Whoever said that brown was plain, was very wrong.

They don't understand.

He's not gone.

. . . he's not. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . I saw him. . .

Army tags glinted in the sun. The wind blew through his sandy blonde hair.

But they don't believe me. We are all grieving.

. . . no. . .

. . . . . . . . they are blinded. . .

The hourglass. Egyptian sand shimmered as it fell over my head.

Egyptian? Egypt?

. . . go to him. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . the Pharaoh. . .

In a trice Yugi changed. He raised his arm ready.

He'll only emerge to duel.

. . . challenge him. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . duel him. . .

I placed my hand over my deck. He looked surprised.

Card after card, and I know I'm getting closer.

. . . closer. . .

. . . . . . . . . . closer than before. . .

"I won't leave you, Mai." The golden light grew in strength behind him.

So now I stand with the sand beneath my feet.

. . . sand beneath me. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . guides me forward. . .

The sunset over the sea illuminated the reunited Wheelers. No matter what Joey said, I'm proud of him.

The pyramids glow, and I feel -I know - the day I will see him again.

. . . that day. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . is not. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . too far away.

"Mai!" He smiles at me.

Drop me a line before you go.
