It was a warm spring day on Mewni. Calm and peaceful. Birds were chirping, yet River Johansson was extremely nervous. He would be going on another date with Queen Moon. He'd already asked her out, and the Queen was probably getting ready as he did. River groomed his hair for about the millionith time. His older brothers told him to stop fussing, but River really liked Queen Moon. He didn't want to ruin this. Finally, he sent out on his way.
Moon Butterfly sat by the edge of the river near the forest. Her hair was flawless, as was the small amounts of makeup she was wearing. She glanced around and slipped off her socks and shoes. She dipped her toes into the water.
"Queen Moon?" River called from behind. Moon yelped in surprise and pulled her feet out of the water.
"Oh! River! You startled me!" Moon cleared her throat and sat up. "It's lovely to see you again, River." River found himself blushing and offered the queen flowers.
"Roses. For you, my Queen." River awkwardly bowed. Moon blushed and took the roses.
"Oh, River... They're lovely." Moon sniffed the roses and River found himself blushing yet again.
"Yes. Lovely. Which is why I got them for you." River adjusted the collar of his shirt. Moon glanced at River.
"You don't mind if I dip my feet in the water, right?" Moon asked, sounding embarressed. "Queens aren't supposed to do this, I don't think." River smiled at Moon.
"Why not? You're the Queen. You can do what you want." River said, kicking his boots off and sticking his own feet in the water. Moon grinned and stuck her feet in the water as well.
"River, have I ever told you how much you mean to me?" Moon asked, placing her hand on the bank.
"What do you mean? Like as a friend or...?" River was completely oblivous to Moon trying to hold his hand. Her hand inched towards River's.
"After my mother died, I only had a few people to turn to. But your family was the most caring. Especially you, River." Moon gently took River's hand. The two teenagers were silent as blush took over their faces.
"River...?" Moon asked softly.
"Yes, Queen Moon?" River replied, frozen in fear of messing up.
"Actually, Moon is fine." Moon said, turning to River. "River, I think I love you." Moon said, gazing into River's blue eyes. River gazed back, the blush started to return. Moon puckered her lips and leaned in for a kiss. River gulped and kissed Moon. After the kiss ended, the two sat in silence.
"Wow." River finally said after a few minutes. Moon glanced over.
"Hmm?"
"Ever since we met, I've always had a tiny crush on you. But you had so many suitors, I never thought I'd even have a chance. But look at this." River grabbed both of Moon's hands. "The Queen of Mewni, Moon Butterfly, is in love with me." Moon blushed and smiled at River.
"Well, you believed in me when I fought Toffee. All my suitors only liked me for what I was." Moon admitted, laying her crown on the grass. "They all see me as the Queen of Mewni. They all want nobility in their blood."
"I see so much more than that. I see a beautiful, smart, brave girl who just so happens to be Queen." River said. "If they only see you for that dinky crown, then they should suck on a corn cob!" Moon chuckled and placed the crown on her head.
"Well, we are almost 18. I know this seems rushed, but if I don't find a king soon, I could lose my crown." Moon said, glancing at River. River slowly pieced together what she was saying.
"Wait, are you?" River asked, hesitantly. Moon nodded slowly.
"Yes. I'd like to know if you'd marry me." The light blue haired Queen said with a small smile.
River nodded with a big goofy grin on his face. "But not because I want to be king, although I do, but I want to marry you because you're you!" The blonde haired prince awkwardly explained. Moon giggled and silenced River with a kiss.
