Bottle Up Old Love

Shadow- "Hello, readers... this is my first attempt at writing a romance-type story, so... please leave a helpful review..."

Renamon- "Shadow does not own digimon... now go and enjoy the story."

Takato's POV

Takato watched the brilliant sun dip lower towards the horizon. He looked up at the crimson light, then down at the bottle he held in his hands. He looked at the old piece of paper inside of it. He sighed.

I don't even know what made me write this at the time...

Takato knew that inside the bottle was a poem... a stupid poem... he corrected himself, that he'd written shortly after their digimon had left. He caught a glimpse of the writing, and blushed.

I mean, I had to have been crazy... Rika'd kill me if she ever read this...

He'd been meaning to give it to her... you know, slip it in her mailbox or something... but after he'd found the portal to the digital world, and Rika reunited with Renamon... she just seemed so distant...

...and I realized then that she'd never love me back...

He sighed sadly again. Oh well...

He looked off into the sunset. The crimson light faded to a deep violet at the edges of the horizon. He nodded.

He made sure the cork was tight on the bottle, and set it adrift in the ankle-deep water at his feet. He watched it float slowly out, the ripples it left reverberating through the calm water.

He heard someone's voice behind him. He half turned, and saw his red haired friend standing there.

"What in the bottle?" Rika asked.

Takato felt something in his chest jump. He knew he had to get that bottle back. He turned away from Rika, (never a smart thing to do...) And ran into the water after the bottle.

Rika's POV

Rika blinked as Takato splashed out into the waves after the thing he'd set there. She took a few steps closer to the water, and watched Takato pull the bottle out of the knee-deep water. She finally saw what it was. A note in a bottle.

What's that goggle-head up to know?

She flipped off her shoes, and ran out to him.

Takato looked up at her. Rika thought she saw him blush in the waning light.

"Oh, h-hi Rika..." he mumbled.

Rika raised an eyebrow. Must be important... She nodded. "Give me it."

Takato blinked, still clutching the bottle. "Huh?"

"The bottle. Give me it."

When Takato didn't, she grabbed the bottle from him, shoving him down into the water.

Over his protests, she un-corked the bottle, and the message spilled out onto her palm.

Her eyes scanned it casually, then she froze. She re-read the message, her heart painfully thumping in her chest.

She looked down at Takato, still sitting with the water up to his chest. He was definitely blushing furiously.

"Um... R-rika... I can expl-"

Rika looked at the message again, listened to her heart beat a few times, and decided. She kneeled down into the water in front of Takato, and leaned forward, brushing her lips lightly against his.

As she pulled back slightly, Takato stared at her, shocked. His mouth moved slightly, but no words came out.

Rika smiled. "You know, Takato... I feel the same way..."

She half tackled him into the surf, letting the note fall from her fingers as she grabbed Takato's shoulder.

The sun glinted off the two lovers and the surf surrounding them, lighting up the last line of the note before it slipped beneath the waves.

I love you Rika.
