A/N: Just some short, LL fluff. An overdone what-if for Raincoats and Recipes… But I figured the boom for this idea died down once Say Goodbye to Daisy Miller premiered. So here's 4:22 – if Kirk had never interrupted the kiss.

He leaned in and kissed her a third time. He still couldn't believe this was happening.
He was kissing Lorelai Gilmore.
Luke Danes was kissing Lorelai Gilmore.
It was better than he could've ever imagined.
He pulled away for a moment. His eyes slid up her face, over her wide grin and soft features, and ended up locked on her gleaming blue eyes.
And then he knew.
He glided his hand down her arm and grasped her hand in his own as he led her up the stairs. Grasping her hand tighter than normal for fear that she would slip away somehow, he fumbled with the door handle.
As the door shut behind them, Lorelai suppressed a laugh as she remembered what room they were in.
Lucky number 7.
Apparently 7 was lucky for Luke after all.
Afterward, she lay across the bed, nestled into the crook of Luke's left arm. She sighed happily and tilted her head upward to look at him. "That was…" she trailed off.
Luke took a deep breath and nodded slightly. He knew what she meant.
As he watched her, he noticed her smile beginning to fade. She lowered her gaze and focused her eyes on her fingers, which were entwined with his. "Everything's going to be different now, isn't it?"
He held her closer and kissed the top of her head lightly. "Yeah."
"Even if we…" Lorelai couldn't seem to say it. "You'll still be my friend… right?"
"We won't." Luke told her reassuringly. "And… yeah. I'll still be there."
Somehow, they both knew the conversation was over. He reached across her and turned off the light. Lorelai rolled over so her back was against his chest.
And in the dark she whispered, "You always have been."
He smiled and pressed her closer to him.
It was really happening.
The End
