The slight breeze gently played with the pastel tresses of Haruno Sakura's choppy hair. An unattractive frown marred her delicate features as she stared accusingly at the tranquil surface of the clouded blue reservoir.
"Why," she murmured softly to herself. "Why," she repeated louder—antipathy laced in her raspy voice, while her luminous jade eyes glistened with hot tears. The tentative steps of Uzumaki Naruto behind her were almost overlooked because Sakura's consciousness was preoccupied with gauzy memories of the once preserved members of Team 7.
"Naruto," she tried to address calmly yet failed due to the scarcely audible sound of the last two syllables of his first name. He replied with a curt nod. Not trusting the sound of his own voice either. Suddenly the air started to feel undeniably thick and humid even as the Sun began to set. Its vast presence illuminating the sihouettes of both lone figures. Making it appear as if a bright halo surrounded the tops of their heads.
An unwanted lump formed at the base of Sakura's throat. The dam she desperately tried to hold back behind her eyes finally broke causing a stream of salty tears to run down her face. She wasn't aware of Naruto inching closer to her until he wrapped his tanned arms around her petite torso. Falling gracefully into an embrace.
They stayed there for a while—in each others arms induldging themselves for a moment of comfort. The minutes quickly passed—the Sun entirely setting in the process as the Moon rose and took its place. Sakura took a shuddering breath as her sobs finally died down. Awkwardly untangling their defiant arms she allowed herself to tenderly sit upon the prickly washed-out green grass.
Naruto however decided on standing, his sapphire orbs although moments before glazed with tears now held his trademark determind appearance. Even though he felt as if he was breaking inside.
"I'll miss him," he heard the faint whisper of Sakura's words drift past his ears. Skimming his cerclean eyes over the opaque lake he inwardly noted that the scattered traces of Sasuke's ashes has finally been absorbed into the water. Gone forever.
"Me too," he murmered, "me too." Goodbye, Teme.
A/N: I didn't know if I should've abruptly ended it that way—but I did. Please1000x review, and tell me if I should leave it as a oneshot or create it into a full fledge story :)
