Angel of Despair

Chapter 1

"Ryou, dear, time for school!" his mother called from outside of his bedroom door. The teenage boy grumbled slightly and reluctantly rolled out of bed. In a zombie like state, he made his way to the bathroom. Turning the corner, he winced at the sight of himself in the mirror. A rather large bruise had formed under his left eye and a cut ran across his forehead. Snapping back to reality he remembered that his Yami had, once again, beaten him severely last night. Sighing softly, he reached into the medicine cabinet and pulled out a bandage for the cut.

She opened her eyes and, to her despair, saw nothing. 'Oh God.I'm blind!' Her mind raced, trying to recall where she was and more importantly how she got there. As her eyes started to clear, she realized that she was not blind. She was in a room with the curtains pulled together so tightly that no light could enter and lift her despair. 'I'm still at the castle' she thought, tears springing to her eyes 'I'll never escape this place.'

A soft knock at the door snapped her out of her thoughts. She wanted to tell whoever it was to go away, leave her to her sorrow. To let her die in this prison that he had created for her. However, her voice betrayed her and simply asked "Who is it?".

"It's Hanna miss" a soft voice answered, "I brought your breakfast."

"Come in" she replied, hugging the covers close to her.

The door opened a crack, allowing light to penetrate the room. Soon a young woman with long raven hair and soft brown eyes entered with a large silver tray. Crossing the room, she approached the frightened girl. 'Poor thing', she thought 'being locked up like this without a single friend. I didn't think anyone could be this cruel.'

With a sigh, she set the tray she had been carrying on a nearby table. Turning back to face the young girl she smiled and said "Well it seems that I'm at a disadvantage here." Receiving only a blank stare she continued "You now know my name but I don't know yours."

"It's Hoshi" a voice answered her from the door "and she is none of your business."
