Every day at sunset Kairi would go down to the beach, waiting for Sora's return. She waited, but he never came. She believed his promise. People told her to move on. They had believed that he was dead. But she would never stop believing. Her smile didn't reach her eyes. People couldn't even tell that it was fake. Today was the five year anniversary of Riku sacrificing himself to help the King. Five years since Sora had made the promise that had kept her going. She counted down to the day like she did every year. Every year she would take two bouquets of flowers. This year she got one with lavenders, rosemary, and pink phloxes for Riku and red roses, purple lilacs, and rosemary for Sora. She would put them into the ocean and watch them as they floated off.
Today it was pouring down rain. Not that she cared. She hugged the bouquets tightly to her.
"I'm not ready to let go…You promised you'd come back. YOU PROMISED! I LOVED HIM AND YOU TOOK HIM FROM ME!" she yelled to the sky.
"I LOVE YOU!" she fell to her knees, trying to hold her tears back.
"I love you. You never broke any promises before." She seemed to get energy at those words.
"WHY THIS ONE! THIS WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT PROMISE OF ALL! YOU SAID YOU'D BE BACK FOR ME! I WAITED FOR YOU! I CAME HERE EVERYDAY SINCE THEN! I THOUGHT YOU'D COME BACK!" Tears poured freely down her face. She sat there for what seemed like hours until she ran out of tears. She stayed there shaking, letting out silent sobs. She could still hear his voice, see his goofy smile. She laid back into the sand closing her eyes, letting the rain wash over her. Just like the rain, her memories washed over her. Her and Sora drawing in the Secret Cave, Riku and Sora racing, collecting things for their trip to other worlds, Hallow Bastion, and Traverse Town. Sora calling her name, saving her from the dark when she lost her heart. But the one that stood out the most was at The Door.
Flashback
"Kairi!"
"Sora!" The ground shook breaking apart. Kairi almost fell, but Sora caught her. She could remember thinking, 'Your always there to catch me when I fall.'
Then the ground slowly broke away from each other, separating her from Sora.
"Kairi! Remember what you said before? I'm always with you to! I'll come back to you! I promise!"
"I know you will!" Her heart broke when their hands broke apart. She remembered exploring the island, feeling truly alone.
End flashback
"Sora, it's killing me. I don't think I can wait anymore." Kairi said sitting up.
"Good." A masculine voice said from behind her, while strong arms wrapped around her waist. "Because you don't have to now!" Kairi turned around and saw him. She latched her arms around his neck.
"Please let this be real. And if it's a dream then let me sleep a little longer." she said.
"Trust me, it's real and I'm back for good. I'm sorry, I couldn't bring back Riku. I tried but he didn't want to. I couldn't make him either."
"Why didn't he want to?"
"He was too ashamed that he fell into darkness."
"How long were you there?"
"Oh I came around about the time you were confessing your love to the skies." She blushed. "See? I kept my promise. Just like I said. I wish I could have told you my feelings earlier."
"Feelings?" This time he didn't answer, he kissed her sweetly on the lips.
