Futility

Surrender is faith that the power of love can accomplish anything... even when you can not foresee the outcome.

"Please tell my mother. . ." Sakura's voice saddened. She graced her heels on the wooden porch, forcing her weight rocking the swing. Next to her sat a young man about her age with crisp autumn red hair, he leaned forward, blue eyes urgent and worried.

She drew back a sigh, her gaze concentrated on the sea of grass waving in the wind. It seemed as if she were avoiding the boy's face. "Tell them to stop trying to save me."

"Hey! You can't give up now. We promised we would find the source- I don't break promises." He lifted his hand, intending to comfort her, but thought better of it, sticking to words.

"It's okay to break this promise. People don't normally keep those anyway."

He held her by the shoulders, an attempt to force her to face him to no avail; she stared at her dress instead. "Promise me you won't give up."

"Even if you make me promise, I can't keep it." She lamented, clear wet stains began to dot her white dress. "My purpose is to drown." She smiled and bit her inner lip. "If you pulled me out of the waves I would suffocate."

"But if you remain in your condition-"

"Either way we won't win."
