My Lonely Mansion—The Story
To the lines of My Lonely Mansion—The Poem.
My mansion is dark,
No light does it see
The war was finally over...but it wasn't the same. Harry Potter was alone. His fiancé died to save him from the Avada Kedavra. He held their 3 week old daughter, Lily, in his arms and walked one last time through the darkened halls of Grimmauld Place. He was finally going to hand it over to the Order for their head-quarters and safe house. No more light, he thought, my Ginny was my light in this dark place.
The Windows are locked,
No-one lives here but me
He made sure that all the doors and windows and possible apparating points and floo networking were locked and closed. It was Lily and Harry's final morning there. All the food had been taken out the night before, so Harry asked Dobby to pop over to the Burrow to get he, Lily and Dobby himself something to eat. Harry was amazed that Minister Scrimgeour actually agreed that if anything happened to him, that Lily would be in Dobby's care. Ginny had agreed to it, along with the rest of the Weasley family. Of course, Dobby knew that he always had a home with them if the unthinkable happened, that way there would always be help. Even if Dobby was a house elf, he was family to them.
The walls have grown dusty,
The floor is cold
Harry set Lily in her bassinet on the kitchen table, fearful of her being near all the dusty corridor walls and crannies. He didn't want her getting any allergies from it. He kept her off the floor too. The floor was too cold nowadays...or at least since Ginny died. Harry looked around the kitchen thinking of all the people he's lost. His mum, his dad, Sirius, Ginny, Dumbledore...it wasn't fair. After all he had given, why did they have to be taken away.
The roof now leaks,
From growing old
Harry couldn't remember how old Sirius said this place was. He looked at his daughter, thinking of what Sirius might of said about her...like he did in his dreams. 'She's beautiful, Harry,' 'She has your mother's hair,' 'You must be so happy'. The last one was a real kick in the face since it was in a dream he had...AFTER Ginny had died.
The fireplace has burned,
A fire in years
The floo network connection in the study had been shut off after Dumbledore died. It wasn't used for much after that. He shook his head at the thought of how much He, Ginny, her brother Ron, Ron's wife Hermione, and their ex-enemy Draco used it after 4 out of 5 of the group. He remembered the nights that they would stumble from The Three Broomsticks fireplace to this one, falling out in a pile of drunken limbs.
No-one has been around,
To wipe away my tears
Harry and Lily have been alone since they had come home from St. Mungo's. He wanted to be alone. He knew that she shouldn't have been alone, but he wanted it. He cried for hours, screaming into the darkness, 'Why? Why? Why did you take her away?' He didn't understand why Ginny had to die.
I haven't seen the sun in so long,
The days past I have lost
Harry got up from his seat, groaning as he stretched. He grabbed Lily's diaper bag, then Lily and walked to Mrs. Black's painting. He looked up at her, confused that she wasn't screaming.
"Sirius died defending what he believed in, ya know," He informed her.
"I know," She said meekly, "Take care of that little beauty of yours," Harry noted fondness in her voice, "I wish I had taken more care with Sirius. Just promise me that you'll bring her...so I can see her."
Harry smiled and nodded.
"I hated it you know," She said suddenly, "when your fiancé died...spent the whole time watching you...I didn't like watching you like that...it was painful."
What is love worth I ask you?
What is the cost?
Harry said goodbye to Mrs. Black, taking a final look around, finally saying goodbye to the cursed place where he had lost so much.
