Ai rang the doorbell, still somewhat shaken after such a revelation. The door opened, and at the sight of who stood before her, she became even more shocked. This was indeed a very eventful day..
"C.C.," she said in shock, staring wide-eyed at the woman with the handful of money.
I can't believe it's really you," Ai said, sitting next to C.C. on the couch as the witch ate her pizza. "I mean, after all of this time. And how surprising, when I met you, you were waiting for pizza," she added sarcastically.
"You're in no position to criticize me," C.C. said, chewing on a piece of pizza. You're delivering pizza for a living."
"True," Ai replied with a laugh. "One of the 'privileges' of being Japanese.
"So you picked quite a remarkable person to give the Geass.
"I figured you'd know," C.C. replied. "Yes, I suppose I was lucky."
"Yeah, I just found out today when I saw him walking by. Being able to find out anyone's darkest secret can sometimes be useful. Not very fun when Geass becomes permanent, though.
"C.C., I'm sorry that I couldn't grant your wish."
"You're odd," C.C. replied.
"Says the immortal witch with the pizza addiction," Ai quipped.
"You sure have gotten rather snippy," C.C. said with a grin, but it left as quickly as it had come. "But you're the only one that's been able to figure it out. Not even Lelouch has. Even when you found out, you still wanted to help, though you knew what would happen."
"Not very hard to figure out," said Ai, lying back and resting her legs on the table. "If you've been alive for so long it's only natural to want death. I was willing to trade with you because it sounded fun."
"Fun?" C.C. echoed.
"Being able to give people Geass," Ai specified. "It's fun to watch what happens after you give someone Geass. I mean, thanks to you, Britannia's going crazy with the whole Zero thing."
"You're strange indeed," C.C. remarked.
"So how's this Lelouch guy?" Ai said, changing the subject. "Besides the whole 'locking you in his house' thing."
"He's... interesting," C.C. replied.
The two sat in silence for a moment, C.C. deeply indulged in her pizza.
"C.C.," said Ai, "would you be happy if you were with another immortal person? You know, since you're not the only one with Code?"
"I suppose," C.C. replied. "As long as it's someone whose company I enjoy. Then there would be at least one person I care about who I wouldn't have to watch die."
"What about Lelouch?" Ai questioned.
"What?" C.C. said, nearly choking on her pizza. "Why would you ask that?"
"I don't know, just wondering," Ai said, surprised to see C.C. even had a reaction. That was the first time Ai had seen her show even a little emotion.
After a stretch of silence, C.C. spoke up. "I suppose I wouldn't mind that.
"Ai! Ai!" Chiyoko cried, pulling her friend towards the bar of the restaurant she now worked at.
They walked up to the television in the bar, where Ai saw Emperor Lelouch fall to his death as zero extracted his knife. Chiyoko looked thrilled, glad that this tyranny was finally coming to an end. Ai caught only glimpses of Lelouch's new secret with her Geass, as the life was being drained from him so quickly.
Some people looked away, or shielded their loved one's eyes, whereas others watched in delight as Lelouch lost grip on life. He looked at his sister, and at that moment, Nunnally seemed to grasp what had happened. He closed his eyes, his sister cried, and the Emperor of Britannia was no more.
There was much commotion going on. Everyone was reacting to this, mainly in joy. Ai simply stood there, looking at Lelouch's lifeless body.
She smiled, and looking at the TV, said, "C.C., I guess this means you're not alone anymore."
