Her hand slid delicately from the flat bed of his chest, the appendage content to have stayed there for hours, the thin beat of his heart singing it's rhythm to her through touch and un betrayed silence. Her eyes stared into his as though looking through a window into a distant field, the light she could have grasped beaming behind the panes of glossy sand-turned glass. She could have stayed in them forever, stayed until the sun in that distant world went down, never to rise again, until her own sunlight faded into dusk and they lay together in that dark field, counting the stars.
But she had to go, something in her knowing all too suddenly that she could not tempt herself with such promise; though the tender threads that pushed and pulled, fragile, but almighty, the ventricles and muscles of her heart, sang to her soft melodies that beckoned her to dream. And so she would. She would dream of that beautiful green field, and the heat of the sun dancing over her skin and lighting freckles in her cheeks as she would lie next to him, heads tucked against each other in the tall, free, yellow grass, staring up at the sky, content and happy. But she would always be reminded that it was but a dream, and something never to be grasped in the turmoil of reality.
And though those tiny string tugged and tugged she could not allow herself to lose herself in him, or anyone, and though she wished against it so, she knew that when the night should come to his sunlight, and hers, she would lie beneath the stars alone; seeing him in the thin glow of the night sky, wanting desperately to be in his arms.
