A/N: Hello, so this is my first fanfiction and it's for Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo! Anyway, let me know what you think, the title is 'Ephemeral' since the definition of the word is 'lasting for a very short time.'

Disclaimer: Surprise! I don't own anything! That was a good one, wasn't it?
Night had fallen still around the palace and the hum of everyday life a few hours before was coming to a close. Where there had previously been idyllic blue sky, there were now stars illuminating the darkness. All was quiet, for the time being at least. The moon, a perfect halo, swung low in the heavens and casting long deep shadows in the horizon. Having retired to her room a few moments earlier, Hae Soo's hand brushed the pages of paper on her desk and she lifted the first one on the pile to her gaze. Each one was perfectly calligraphed and Soo's eyes lingered on the inked characters, the meanings flowing through their mind. Then out of the silence she noticed a quick series of taps from the opposite side of the room. Soo paused for a moment, then turned to the window to see a silhouette of two hands forming the shape of a wolf, arched towards the sky in a howl. The corners of her mouth lifted as Soo remembered the night they used their hands to make the shadows of different animals.
"Soo-ah," a whisper came from outside. Soo recognised it instantly, and she detected a hint of playful impatience that was uncharacteristic of the fourth prince. Approaching the window, she lifted the pale green veil and opened the two panels slightly ajar. Standing outside, the familiar form of Wang So was cast in shadows and the wind sifted his robes into dark rippling waves. So's face shone with the moon's soft luminescence and Hae Soo noticed the subtle upward quirk of his lips when his gaze fell upon her.
"Your Highness?" she reached forward to open the window fully.
"It's a full moon tonight. Come on, I want to show you something."
