Warnings: Slight twincest (if you're looking for it). Angst.

Summary: Vague apologies.

Notes: Started off as a beginning to a June the Dots (the name of a challenge) fic, but then I procrastinated too long, and then it didn't fit with the rest. Now it is just a drabble.

Apologies

They sit in a small, dingy diner somewhere in the Boston suburbs. It's one of those middle-of-nowhere, just-got-off-the-highway diners, with neon lights glaring into the night, populated mostly by truckers stopping for dinner. All in all, they're out of place, quiet and well-kempt.

They sit across from each other, not looking around at the other customers, not talking, just eating. Minding their own business.

Murphy is eating a hamburger and fries, while Connor just sips his black coffee. They don't look at each other much. In fact, each of the twins seems to be avoiding the other's gaze. Both appear to find their dinner intensely interesting.

Connor sighs, picks up his coffee, throws the rest of it back, swallows, and stands. He slides out of the booth, and makes as if to walk to the counter. Murphy's hand shoots out and grabs the edge of Connor's shirt, clutching the fabric. Murphy looks up, his blue eyes pleading with Connor, as if to say "I'm sorry, don't go," but it isn't clear what he's sorry for. Connor just shakes his head slowly and pulls away. Pays for his coffee at the counter. Walks out the door without a second look.

Murphy drowns his fries in catsup, his hands shaking slightly.
