Well, my friends and I were thinking of ways Death Note could have gone wrong, and I came up with this...
Disclaimer: L died, thus, I do not own Death Note. (I did take the liberty of creating my own though XD)
Summary: Death Note would have been so much shorter if this had happened. We'd never have met Misa (YAY!), and L would have remained with the living (again, YAY!).
"Death Note... Hmm... I wonder what it does..." Raito muttered, staring at the black notebook sitting on his desk in front of him.
"I suppose the first thing to do is to mark it as my own, so Sayu doesn't 'borrow' it..." Raito foraged in his desk drawer in search of a working pen. "Aha!" He found one.
So he opened up the rather forlonly titled book, not even glancing at the inside front cover. I mean, nothing of any importance could be printed there, could it? Publishing dates... HA! He flicked to the first page, and scribbled in bold handwriting, eyes flickering to the clock as he did so:
'Yagami Raito, aged 17, 21st May 2005, 4:06 pm'
And all of a sudden, Raito found it very hard to breathe. It felt like his chest was constricting and cutting off his air supply, and he tried to call for help, but was confused when no sound came from his lips. He was gasping now, and he fell sideways off his chair, dropping his pen as he went. (Episode 25, just picture Raito as L)
It was the thud as he hit the floor that alerted his mother and Sayu, and they both came rushing up the stairs, only to find their beloved Raito-Kun lying upon the floor, and a look of horror mixed with confusion upon his cold, dead face.

Mother and daughter put two and two together. His name in the black notebook coupled with the set of rules at the front, which Raito had obviously not paid any attention to. So they immedietly stuck it in the oven, burning it, and all the criminals (and L) lived happily ever after. The End.
