He stared, stunned.

No way… This CAN'T be true…

He blinked his eyes again.

I am NOT hallucinating and my eyesight is perfect.

Scrunching his nose, he took in a deep breath.

Ah, the sweet smell of candies and cakes!

So real… Surely the nose would never play any tricks on his senses. Warily, step by step, he went up to the strange yet scrumptious-looking house. Piece by piece, he examined every inch of the curious building. He let his finger explore its crumbly golden-brown walls of biscuits; trailing along the sugar-frosted door of cakes and cookies; tapped the maple-syrup windows. A taste on his tongue cleared all his doubt.

These are real sweets!! Oh GOD!! A house made up entirely of sweets!! I've found a house made of sweets!!

Hardly able to contain his joy, L, the brilliant young genius detective L, jumped and leapt a dance of victory like a child, thoroughly proud and pleased with his new discovery. A ground-breaking discovery; a miracle on Earth. Ah… and the sweet-smelling snacks… Without second thoughts, L started nibbling at the house, starting with the wall, then door, then window. And no, he did not mind that two more sweet-enthusiast had joined him, nibbling or biting large chunks out of the edible building. He did not mind that they were probably the same age as he is, or even older, nor did he mind their striking purple eyes. Hell, the more the merrier!!

Maybe I should spare some for Hiwatari-san and the other kids too.

Somewhere out in a mall, the Wicked Witch of the Gingerbread House had a weird feeling.

No, it cannot be.

Certainly, no one will ever find her precious scrumptious house, hidden in the deep forest of inland Japan after her failed attempts in Denmark. Unless she let them see it, that is. And she'd only lure in unsuspecting little children as her lunch and dinner. Yes, some green pepper and onions on the tender stew, if she ever caught any today

Wonder how Japanese children taste like…?

It never ever crossed her mind that she would die of a heart attack when she reached home and found the house eaten to the core of its foundation with nothing left.

Note: Another random idea after I saw how L survived only on snacks and candies throughout his whole life in the series. One wonders if he ever needed any other food at all...
