Kovu's Fate
Kovu lay out on the log, staring out at the dagger-shaped rock that always caught him at night. Pride Rock. Ever since he was 5 weeks old, he would lay out there and dream of living as a Pridelander. He looked down, staring into the muddied waters. Night played with the water, making it ink black with the stars and moon shimmering through, a blazing white. Kovu saw his reflection: A dirt-brown cub with flaring green eyes and a mud-colored mane tuft and tail-tip. An older female cub with gold fur, bangs, and blue eyes joined Kovu on his log.
Vitani, princess of the desert-like, desolate Outlands, shared her brother's secret wish to be in that far-off land. The stone glowed a pale gray mixed with white in the moonlight. The cubs stared at the beautiful sight, enjoying the tranquility. Until a voice cut through the dark.
"Hi-iiii!" An awkward adolescent stumbled towards them. His fur was gray-tan, like the hard soil. A scraggly black mane, beard, and tail-tip gave him an odd look, and red eyes that matched those of his mother Zira sparked crazily. "Nu-u-kaa!" Vitani wailed. "What are you trying to do? Wake the dead? I'll go see if the elephant in the Elephant Graveyard woke up and started walking!" Kovu placed a paw on his sister's shoulder. "Easy, 'Tani...ya know he's not-all-there."
